    Pros

25% discount on anything in store, good first time experience, flexible schedules for college students

    Cons

No schedule stability whatsoever, getting called in early frequently, heavy workload, sales associates are underpaid for how much work they are expected to do, pressure on sales associates to single- handedly maintain store sales and conversion rates with little to no help, having to push the credit card on every customer

    Advice to Management

Help associates to maintain sales goals that you set for them, and offer a little more schedule stability.

    Pros

The company has many service to help employees even with problems that do not relate to work. There is also a strong emphasis on ethically sustaining Pier 1 Imports from product design through to customer experience..

    Cons

Unpredictable future of the company. There are issues with order fulfillment that the store staff can feel unheard about. There is little feedback from the distribution center when arranging customer orders.

    Advice to Management

When issues arise document everything and organize it the way your higher-ups want it.

    Pros

Great work environment and co workers. Formed a lot of great relationships. For the most part customers are easy to work with. Flexible schedule.

    Cons

Management changes a lot and makes it unstable. People who were hired after me were making more even though I was one of the best employees. I was getting too many hours while others were only getting 1 shift a week, need to find a balance.

    Advice to Management

Make pay equal and fair for employees who have been working there longer

    Pros

Look for people to move up internally. Many opportunities to advance. The people in my store really felt like my family and I loved going to work! I stayed with them for 3 years and look to work for them in the corporate office some day.

    Cons

Minimum wage for sales associates if you're in a small market. Lots of standing on your feet.

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The discount... if you can afford the products even with the discount.
Bonuses... If the company hasn't given unrealistic sales goals. (Which they always do and have stated to their shareholders and the public.) If you do make goal you can expect a measly 75 dollars without taxes.

If you are a regular employee you will receive 50 pier 1 dollars at Christmas.

It's a great job if you want to decorate your home and can deal with the laundry list of problems the company has failed to fix.

    Cons

Too focused on their share holders and not the interest of the employees that help them make money.

Disgruntful management that never fire employees or write them up.

    No communication between management.

Management that are not informed about what is happening with the company.

When there is a customer issue that is beyond your control management, they will most certainly not back you up. Any customer issues or complaints are YOUR fault. The company must look out for itself and not the employees.

The company wants most things to be done in a few hours. (Ex. Moving furniture around and setting up new sales in a few hours with very little staff.)

The reason there is such high turnover is because the company does not invest in their employees. They want a much older demographic to work in their stores who only want employees to work there for the discount and give them little hours and small pay. When they realize how much work they actually will be doing for such little pay they leave.

They hire employees from desperation and do not hire quality employees leading to an unmanageable staff.

They focus on their credit card so much that it often becomes unbearable. They spin new ways to sell their credit card which become their focus more than selling their merchandise.

They will lower your hours at a drop of a hat if they company needs to save money. Often as a sales lead you are supposed to work at least 20 hours. The actual hours you receive will normally be under that.

They will schedule you under 5 hours so you will not receive a lunch. Often employees are scheduled for a lunch but are not able to take it if no other management is in the store to watch the floor if you have to take a break.

management is not very encouraging. If you want to move up in the company they will give you a chance to interview but often leave you hanging whether you received the job of not.

The company will often blame its employees on not making their quarter.

If you want to work for this company be prepared to deal with a lot of issues.

    Advice to Management

I personally cannot give any advice to management because they are robots and are programmed to do and say certain things ( by corporate). They cannot help it that they are pawns to a money hungry company that refuses to pay all of its employees (with the exception of corporate) a living wage or better pay based on the amount of work and time they give to this company annually. When you have a corporation that does not have the employees best interest at heart and only caters to share holders who want to see more money in their pockets by their stock going up they will NEVER care about their employees. When you have a company that does not care about their employees, management tends to get disgruntful and resentful and those people then manage you. Be warned....
