    Pros

The bankers in the Minneapolis office have a really laid-back attitude, which is unusual to find in an investment banking environment. Everyone facilitates your development and learning experiences, and takes concern to your growth, development, an work-life balance.

    Cons

Long hours (inherent in the industry). HR and the senior bankers really stress the work-life balance, and try to follow new policies implemented regarding no work after 12pm on Fridays, protected weekends, etc. but it rarely pans out.

    Advice to Management

Plan materials in advance, always indicate due dates, eliminate unnecessary sense of urgency when possible.

Small firm, easier to get to know everyone

    Cons

Disconnected from offices outside of minneapolis

    Pros

Nice people. Good reputation for research. Smaller company so you get to know everyone. Good learning.

    Cons

HQed in Minneapolis so sometimes conservative for the people in NYC and SF and other big coastal cities. Pay is ok. Not as good as bulge.

    Advice to Management

be more open minded to the new ideas and new markets... Everything is global now. It's not just about what's happening in the U.S.

    Pros

Friendly colleagues with decent tools including relatively up-to-date hardware and premium software tools. Competitive entry and mid-level salaries. You can make what you want out of your role.

    Cons

Cons aren't Piper's fault, it's the business. I'm not going to list the cons of Wall Street here. I've read and heard people say "Minnesotta Nice, Minnesotta Ice." And there's truth there. I've seen more than a handfull of people get screwed and I've watched juniors get strung out to dry like a pair of cheap undies. But welcome to finance...half of those folks deserved it. I do think the gripes you will have here will largely be the same as the issues you'll have at other banks, both big and small. So maybe some introspective soul-searching is in order for the folks who are super negative on this firm.

    Advice to Management

I think mgmt is better than most banks.

    Pros

Treat their interns very well in regards to other investment banks. A very flexible culture.

    Cons

It all depends on you to build your way up, people will help you - but won't come to you.

    Pros

Not a cut throat culture, but still pushed enough to achieve necessary tasks/goals. Flexibility

    Cons

Pays a little below the market, though if you are a top performer, you will be well compensated. Working in the NY office makes you feel a little less part of the organization given most of the company's staff is in MN

    Advice to Management

More management leaders based in NY instead of MN

    Pros

You learn so much so fast, great for students with a general interest in Investment Banking. Flexible work schedule, nice people, meaningful projects. Great corporate setting to develop professional skills. Excellent compensation compared to other student work combined with a surprisingly pleasant and helpful office culture help make this company a good choice.

    Cons

Somewhat stressful environment and communication is difficult at some points, this comes with the job and the industry however. Internship did not include a presentation to upper-mgmt.

    Advice to Management

Set clear start and finish dates.
