    Pros

    Benefits were fairly good. The people in the engineering group were the best reason to work there. Most are hard-working, nice and easy to work with.

    Management does not listen to the people in the trenches, and therefore seems to make the same mistakes over and over again. They

    Actually listen to your employees instead of paying them lip service. Saying in each quarterly meeting that "we have to work harder and smarter" hardly engenders any passion or loyalty.

    Pros

    Working in a display company is pretty cool. You're surrounded by high tech tv's for heaven's sake! The benefits are pretty good - lots of vacation time and good health benefits as well as 401K contributions.

    Cons

    Leadership is terrible. High stress. Bad decisions are made there every day and still the CEO remains. Losing money up the wazoo every day.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Rather than laying off and treating badly the very talented worker bees, start with the top and get in better leadership.

    Pros

    Some solid engineering and operations resources, primarily gained from other Portland area layoffs.

    Cons

    Senior management is simply not competent. Those that were have left. The company is run more like a club of insiders than a business. More concern with the stock price and latest quarter than establishing a real strategy to succeed.

    Pros

    Flexible schedule, decent PTO (though not accrued), well-known company, interesting products

    Cons

    Cronyism, lack of effective management, sailing without a rudder, not many perks left except for paycheck

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    It's too late for advice - they need to vacate. Keeping home theater division this long has become the albatross around Planar's neck. Besides layoffs, not sure if activist investor can help to right this sinking ship...

    Pros

    Benefits, PTO, flexible work schedules, positive co-workers/environment, plenty of opportunities to contribute to projects across the company

    Cons

    Financial struggles, lay offs, reactive business practices, not enough up front research on products, markets/verticals, disorganized sales & marketing, impulsive decisions and poor communications by management

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Less reactive, more proactive/smart practices, better organization, communication and research. More productive employee feedback and opportunities/training for employees looking to develop careers within the company.

    Pros

    The amount and availability of PTO is the one good benefit left, as all the others have been reduced or taken away completely.

    Cons

    No clear leadership direction at any managerial level, lower benefits, low wages.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Do more in-depth industry research to determine what future customer needs are; set clear goals that are measurable and attainable, and hold key players accountable to performance related to those goals.
