I have been working at Plantronics full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great work/life balance with remote working opportunities; well established Brand and feeling of stability.

    Cons

Typical internal politics, the pay is less than average for the area, considering the surrounding Silicon Valley companies and room for growth is very minimal. If you are looking to grow professionally and increase your level of responsibility within the company- look elsewhere.

    Pros

Nice people creates a positive culture, high quality products, strong enterprise and call center business, quarterly earnings management, 7 minutes to the beach.

    Cons

Little appetite for change, biggest risk to company is being too risk averse, unable to keep pace with the industry, quarterly earnings takes away from its focus on the future, questionable ability and limited patience to create and execute to a long term vision.

    I worked at Plantronics full-time

    Pros

Plantronics has a strong contingent of competent, satisfied, local, long-time employees. It has successfully maintained its core market niche for decades, and it is aggressively trying to evolve.

    Cons

The company is in flux, and change is challenging. Engineering has some highly skilled veteran contributors, but it is struggling to adapt to new opportunities and technologies, and the current senior management is well worth being extremely wary of. Morale is not high.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Some key resignations might allow some less arrogant and manipulative leadership to come in and exert a positive influence more in keeping with Plantronics' historical reputation as a good place to work.

Decent management, not great, just decent
Flexible workplace. Nice building and workspace.

    Cons

    No real advancement opportunities.
Location in Santa Cruz with horrible access and local area. Homeless area.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a risk. Forecast growth for more than 6% a year.
Evaluate senior management. Not all stellar people.

    I worked at Plantronics

    Pros

    solid financials
    low attrition
market leadership position (in NA and EU)
    generally nice and friendly people
    interesting technology and strategy

    Cons

Moves slow: legacy products, culture, and processes make change very painful.
Little empowerment: many people involved in every decision
Very little career development, most management positions are recruited externally
Revolving door at the executive levels

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

groom internal talent in all departments
empower your domain experts: Product Managers shouldn't be held up as the experts in everything.

I have been working at Plantronics

    Pros

Employees are treated well and are respected. Goals of company are clearly stated and well communicated to all interested parties.

    Cons

Ideas from lower-tier workers aren't taken seriously. Not many chances to move up in the corporate ladders. Some managers do not make any effort to understand employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to lower-tier workers and the ideas they have. Be more engaged and find out what their employees are doing and how they can take on more responsibilities.

I have been working at Plantronics

    Pros

Fellow associates are wonderful. Company is very flexible with time and working "odd" hours if required. Plantronics really tries to take care of its employees.

    Cons

If you are used to working at other large companies, this one would be different for you. Employee take advantage of overall freedom given by management and will literally leave work for hours at a time. If you are an employee who doesn't like to take advantage then this can get old as you are not rewarded any differently.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

In todays climate, I would think you would want to get rid of dead weight thereby freeing up funds for high profile projects. Instead the dead weight stays on and the high profile projects do not have the funding they need.

I worked at Plantronics full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Nice perks and they really look after you. Informal work environment (if you like that) CEO seems genuine

    Cons

Many employees have a lot of repetitive tasks and nobody challenges the status quo. There is no real direction from management although there are plenty of company meetings, however these are just platforms for managers to inform you what they've done and that's it. A lot of the managers are self-promoted and they forget about the rest of the employees very quickly turning their attention towards "projects", awards and buzzwords instead of actually motivating and getting the most out of staff. There are lots of competent employees but anyone with ambition will leave, and they have done in droves.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Advise to EMEA management: What is the point, they've created a bubble for themselves. Advise to US management: kick some butt in EMEA!
