I have been working at Point B full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

They are the most flexible company, I have ever worked for and really prioritize you having "life" in addition to work. They also have an really strong culture that cares about their employees happiness.

    Cons

They try and claim that they do more than they do. They are really just product managers and it is more like glorified staff aug then it is like consulting.

While the culture is strong it can also feel a bit campy. if it fits your personality you'll really be on board but if not it may feel like you're part of a religion that you don't believe in.

    I worked at Point B full-time

    Pros

Working alongside great people; you will build lasting friendships.

    Cons

Leadership inexperienced at running management consulting firm. Decisions made in 2012 led to financial pressures. Too much internal focus rather than understanding external/market indicators. Promotions into leadership often a stretch and then leaders don't receive adequate training and mentorship. Virtually no external hires into leadership. No external perspective on the Board.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get some external perspectives on the Board.

    Pros

    Very smart, engaging people
    Nice work atmosphere
    Some great clients
    Has well defined culture

    Cons

Strategic reorg of company is creating a lot of unnecessary hierarchy diminishing the associate experience.
Needs to work on its biz dev engine more.
    Not much development opportunities.
A lot of positioning within long termers for internal roles

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do a better job of looking at asociate experience especially when major changes are going on. Keep focus of company on those doing client service delivery.

I have been working at Point B full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Choice of engagements and opportunities for the individual
    - The values and ethics of this firm are real
    - The people are great and the events are fun

    Cons

    - Leadership needs to stop trying to please everyone
    - The SGI strategy has not been fully realized but there is no momentum to bring the strategy to life in day-to-do operations.
    - This firm over values themselves

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You are over collaborative and far too internally focused. There is this vast amount of overhead that adds very little value and wastes a ton of money.

Entrenched core set of people who have undue control

    Cons

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Mike, consider hiring a CEO and go back to being the COO.

Work-life balance can be real, but it's not inexpensive.

    I worked at Point B

    Pros

Flexibility, ability to take unpaid time off, work-life balance. Excellent client roster can make for very interesting projects (though not always).

    Cons

Limited opportunity for advancement within the firm due to flat org structure (almost everyone is a Senior Associate). Comp is rather flat too, unless you bring in a lot of business. Most important decisions made in a black box, including annual bonus. Limited intereaction with peers since there's no offices and all project work is done at the client's site. Hourly rates are competitive, but when you factor in benefits (minimal), PTO (none), bonus (limited), 401k matching (none), and profit sharing (none), it's hard to envision a long-term road to retirement -- unless you're one of the three partners, or the handful of managing directors.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Increased transparency in decision-making, compensation structure, bonus. Profit sharing.
