I have been working at Point B full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Flexibility - ability to work remotely
Great culture - fun events, annual company retreat
Give back programs - firmwide focus on community service
    Smart people
    Interesting work

    Cons

Professional development and advancement opportunities aren't clear
    Sometimes too Seattle-focused

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would love to see more opportunities for advancement and professional growth in all roles, not just the consultants.

    I worked at Point B

    Pros

Working at Point B was a great experience. Lots of very intelligent and highly motivated people. For the most part, people are very well aligned and understand the goals of the firm. Lots of opportunity to work in different areas of the business if interested.

    Cons

I had worked on the firm-wide (non client facing) team. Area leads tended to make a project out of every little thing instead of focusing on small incremental change where applicable. Most projects do not get completed and succumb to the typical failings of a waterfall type project methodology e.g.: projects take too long, run over budget and fail to meet the business requirements as they’ve changed.

Also – compensation is average to below average. It can be years before raises are given and cost of living adjustments year over year are not typical.

I have been working at Point B

    Pros

Great people to work with and the support for work/life balance is the best I've ever experienced.

    Cons

Middle of the road compensation when considering no paid vacation or time off at all.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep going on the OEI - but consider the impact of any changes on pay. You may need to re-visit the comparison compensation models previously used to ensure attraction and retention of the best candidates and Associates.

    I worked at Point B

    Pros

Good work life balance. very flexible.
Very smart core group of consultants.

    Cons

Positioning more and more muddled as it grows. Losing focus on true core competency, and losing close collegial atmosphere at the expense of growth.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get back to the core values that really made associates proud to work at Point B.

I have been working at Point B

    Pros

If you are tired of the big consulting firms and their internal games, looking for less travel, more control over your projects and interesting projects, Point b is a great place to be. The focus is on the Associate and not numbers. There are many intelligent and smart people working at the firm. The leadership sincerely cares about the employees. We currently bill for every hour worked, which is great in the busy/overtime periods, not so great when your workload at the client is light. But we are changing our compensation model and about to roll it out.

    Cons

Currently, benefits are slightly improving, but minimal compared to larger consulting firms. Health care and disability for the employee were recently added, but there is no 401(k) match. Bonus calculations are impossible to undersatnd. The new compensation model being rolled out next month is supposed to change much of this. Somewhat difficult to effect change - "That's not the Point B way..." is the mantra. Growing quite fast, and wondering if we can continue growing - without adopting some of the big 4 consulting firm techniques/strategies.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Not all Associates are the same.

I have been working at Point B

    Pros

Point B proved that it "walks the talk" when the financial meltdown happened. There were no layoffs, a new compensation structure was implemented to cover associates on the bench, and the company moved forward to become an employee-owned firm.

Associates are able to make their own decisions on when/where to take roles. We're actually treated like adults.

There is a very strong virtual network; people are ALWAYS willing to help out!

    Cons

Limited communication from management as to the direction of the firm. (However, this has recently started to get better.)

No real feedback is given to associates (unless there is a problem.)

It's not clear as to how decisions are made and why certain people get to participate in decision-making while others do not.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More visibility, more communication, more associate pariticipation.
