I worked at Polo Ralph Lauren

    Pros

I worked with some really great people, but none of those people were management.

    Cons

Management was extremely incompetent. Any time there was a spot open for a new manager instead of picking the most knowledgeable and deserving person they would give the position to their friend which only perpetuated the already disgusting level of incompetence. The management treated the job as if it was a club hangout for their friends. If you didn't suck up to the managers they made it well known that they didn't like you and would reprimand you for absolutely no reason. They would not only pull you off the floor and take you into the back office to yell at you, but would do it in front of customers that you were currently helping and on multiple occasions the customers expressed disgust at the managers behavior and would say that they should never ever be in a position to manage other people because they're abusing their power and the people underneath them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you have members of your staff who show initiative and pride in what they're doing you should cultivate and groom those people for management positions, not your friends because you constantly lose great employees who were sick of working at a place where the managers feel the need to rule with an iron fist and an empty head.

I have been working at Polo Ralph Lauren

    Pros

Employee discount. Fun events. Great name on your resume.

    Cons

Politics and your personal/economic status indicate your potential. No corporate management training for employees taking on direct reports.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Train managers well. Don't tolerate negativity and internal politics.

I worked at Polo Ralph Lauren full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

You will meet many nice people and develop many friendships.

    Cons

    1. No leadership 2. Managers only concerned with getting their bonus 3. Worst pay on Madison Ave. They claim to be luxury retail but pay like Gap. 3. They pay sales associates on Madison Ave Flagship (Mansion) $12 and $13 per hour here in New York City. 4. Sales associates constant fighting over sales 5. Negative Atmosphere which comes across to customers 6. High Turnover due to associates leave because the company will lower you pay if you don't sell a certain amount each year. They will drop your hourly rate depending on your yearly sales amount.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at the Madison Ave. Flagship store (Mansion) and there is no management. The managers do not focus on the needs of the sales staff. The place is a ZOO

I worked at Polo Ralph Lauren full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Internationally renowned retail brand. Good place to learn what to do and what not to do. Beautiful offices. Employee discounts and sample sales.

    Cons

Not a creative/innovative work environment. Lack of diversity. A lot of "red tape" and approval processes. Very formal work environment. Belitting others is a common practice. A lot of perceived favoritism and corporate gossip.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be transparent with new initiatives. Make employee decision based on facts not emotions.

I have been working at Polo Ralph Lauren full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    1 hour unpaid lunch break

    Cons

19k after taxes, terrible managment, the hours were from 10-7, stressful, no room for growth, expected to purchase clothes from Ralph Lauren and wear at all times despite not being given an allowance or any type of assistance. Desperate for new employees and will hire the most unqualified people to work there. Management favors the top seller in the store and will treat everyone else poorly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please hire 16-18 year old teenagers because these are the only type of people who can afford to make such little being a sales associate.

    A robot factory

I worked at Polo Ralph Lauren

    Pros

They feed you good. Free coffee; and they trust you to pay for your own snakes. Vendors outside so you don't have to go out

    Cons

Worst place ever; treated everybody like robots. Not human there especially during Christmas.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't be so hard on the temporaries, they are human to. Don't be quick to fire temporaries and during Christmas season don't work everyone until they can't stay anymore.

I worked at Polo Ralph Lauren full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

I can't think of one good thing, well they give you earn time off but, you have to use that time to make up hour when they cut hours, so really you can't save them for vacation time away from this place. And you really need the time off sometimes because this Place DRAIN the life out of you.

    Cons

Scheduling, the schedule should be made a month in advance but it's a daily schedule changing by the hour, no Work life balance. the daily post and changing of the schedule have you where you can't interview if you'll looking for another job or if you need to go to the doctor and you will after all the HARD mental work this place does on you, at Ralph Lauren you don't have a life.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Post a schedule a month in advance like stated in handbook and not change in every day. stop making people feel like they have to paid vacation time back just to get hours that have been taken from them. And give people lawful breaks.

I worked at Polo Ralph Lauren full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Good design and company discount (but I will never buy their brand anymore)

    Cons

Very disorganized and superficial. I had the worst experience there.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If the management kept treating people like they do now, I honestly think the brand will not last long. It still thinks it is a prestigious brand and lacks humility. I will not recommend anyone working for them.
