I worked at Polo Ralph Lauren part-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Discounts, Pay higher than most other part time retail jobs, company loyalty, learn alot about customer service and retail marketing

    Cons

changes in management often, no incentives for employees to work hard or punishment for those who do not work, raises were little to none and were not often. Too many new rules hurting employee growth

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop changing store management so often, incentive managers and associates that work well to want to stay with the company

I have been working at Polo Ralph Lauren full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

RL is very stable and has a lot of passionate, hard working people. The company has done well to inspire a feeling that employees are in a Polo family/fraternity. Benefits and corporate holidays are good as well. Quality brand and product. Great discount.

    Cons

The expectation isn't always reasonable in terms of hours put in. Although stable (fewer layoffs than other companies I've seen), they keep a lean staff. Often times it feels like we are expected to do more with less - goals increased, resources decreased. I don't feel the salaries are very competitive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If the company does well, create incentive and boost morale by giving bonuses or increases to those who aren't Sr. Director and above. It's discouraging to the day-to-day associates/managers/directors to hear the business is doing well but yet there's no budget for a support team member or annual increases even if you've received a good performance review. Encourage entrepreneurial spirit and free thinking in order to improve processes and avoid siloed workers and linear-minded individuals.

I worked at Polo Ralph Lauren part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Had a great first two year experience. Overall good system compared to other retail stores.

    Cons

I saw one manager leave after the next. Nothing was stable, the hours for sales associates could be 0 for weeks at a time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reward sales associates for their good work, too many rules will just make sales associates rebel.

    Cons

    Politics, not enough time off

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Less political game playing and more political maneuvering will allow for processes to move faster; Pay is at sub-industry rates.
