An exciting company to start and grow your career with.

    Operations Manager (Current Employee)

ProsManagement training program (MIT) allowed for a smooth transition into a full time management posititon. The potential to learn multiple facets of the company, and how to manage personel, inventory, logistics, and finances.
Jobs are available across the country and even internationally.
The benefits are above par, with a growing welness program.

ConsSummer seasonal work hours are a little long.

    Sales Center Manager

    Sales Center Manager (Current Employee)

ProsIf you are willing to work the sky is the limit
    Travel opportunities
Quick advancement (manager of a million dollar store after 2 years)
Ability to live all over the country (300 locations)
    Great culture
    Casual work place

ConsThe base pay is lower than average and if you are working in a market that isnt strong (yet) it can be tough to reach your bonus.

Advice to Senior ManagementOnce someone has proved themselves please compensate them. It is crazy to lose a potentially life long employee over a few bucks a pay check

A great hands on company to work for.

Sales Center Manager (Current Employee) Dallas, TX

ProsYou learn from the bottom up at the sales center location but gain an incredible amount of knowledge, training, and hands-on experience through our MIT training course.

ConsDuring the height of the season, depending on your location, work is extremely intense. However, it's well worth it if you take the time to cultivate your work environment and well as building and growing your customer relationships.

    -Friendly employees
-Every day provides a new challenge
-Not a "typical" office (cubical) work environment
    -Great Benifits
    -Relocation possibilities
    -Promotion opportunities

    Cons-Long hours during peak seasons
    -Outdated inventory management system
    -Salary

Advice to Senior ManagementGet a new system to replace outdate Prelude.

Solid place to begin a career for recent college graduates.

Operations Manager (Current Employee) Peoria, IL

Pros-Manager in Training program is a great fit for recent college graduates.
-Strong opportunities for advancement if you are a driven employee.
-Personable management. From sales center level up to the top.
-Work experience is great. You really have the opportunity to make an impact and your ideas are listened to at the branch level.
-Good yearly bonus opportunities for managers.
-Benefits package is good and has improved the past few years.

Cons-Many pool and spa companies still operate like it is the 90's. You have to be very patient with customers and some vendors who at times may lack professionalism. (There are many exceptions to this though don't get me wrong)
-Salaries are somewhat lower than you'd hope but you won't starve either.
-Seasonality of the business can sometimes make for long days in season.
-Fast paced warehouse environment. As a manager you must be able to deal with people from different backgrounds and figure out how to get the most out of your team.
-If you want to wear business casual type clothes to work everyday this is not the place for you.

Advice to Senior Management-I would give former MIT's a salary raise after 3 years of employment. This would help to retain talented managers and prevent them from looking around at other opportunities.

    Great post-collegiate opportunity.

OUTSIDE SALES (Current Employee) San Francisco, CA

Pros- World and industry leader in their field.
    - National company, able to relocate as desired.
    - MIT Program is a great leadership opportunity for a recent college grad.
    - Jeans and Sneakers to work.
    - Senior Management is apporachable, actually learns your name.
    - Large company, very small feel.
    - The employees like to let loose.
    - Company car, cell phone, etc.
    - Excellent insurance benefits.
    - Values-based selling philosophy.
    - Continued oppotrunity for internal training and development (Diamond Sales Certification).

Cons- ERP system is out of 1975.
    - Being a publicly traded company can lead to some regulatory headaches.
    - On the lower-end of the $ based compensation.

Customers can be a pain, yeah, but that's not unique to PoolCorp.

Advice to Senior ManagementThink about paying the former MITs a bit more, consider an update to SAP or GUI-based ERP system.

PoolCorp has given me a great chance to succeed.

    MIT (Current Employee)

ProsGreat manager in training program that encompasses almost every aspect of the business, and gave me a chance to sling shot my carrer. Lots of room to move up and grow with this company as it continues to grow. The training includes great programs for marketing, sales of any product, presentations, and financial analysis.

ConsThus far the biggest complaint is the warehouse management software. It takes a while to get used to, even with the training program, but has been even more difficult to teach to new hires.

Advice to Senior ManagementWork on the inventory management system

    Treats their employees very well

    MIT (Current Employee) Minneapolis, MN

ProsGreat benefits, even beyond monetary ones. Company really puts employees first. Good company cohesion, everyone is willing to work together. Great training program.

ConsSeems slightly like a blue collar corporate environment at times. Some customers seem desperately behind the times, and this causes them to sometimes be difficult to work with. Salaries can be a bit low

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep treating employees well, but bring salaries to a more competitive levels to retain employees longer.

    Good experience, effort required.

    Warehouse Associate (Former Employee)

ProsWork is seasonal - in temperate climates this means easy work during colder periods.
Opportunities exist to advance in the company, from warehouse positions to management.

ConsWork is seasonal - busier periods during the warmer months can mean lots of work.
