    Pros

One of their main concerns is safety, they pay well, have benefits, overall a good company to work for

    Cons

I haven't really been working here that long, but I don't have anything negative to say.

    Pros

    - Stable company that is a global leader in the industry
    - Great employees and co-workers who are at the top of their respective fields
    - Still offers 5% matching on 401K
    - Safety first culture

    Cons

    - In 8 years I have been through 3 major and 2 minor reorganiztions
    - There is no effort to retain or compete for talented individuals
    - The limited bonus structure has been updated 3 times in recent years to minimize what is paid out to employees. Now it is almost insulting
    - Praxair prides itself on being a technology company, but it is definitely not embracing information technology trends. Praxair is easily 10 -15 years behind the times, while our competitors make strides forward
    - Very politically charged, good old boy, silo type mentality.
    - Upper management not engaged. More concerned about immediate rewards for their reviews and bonuses over the long term stability and growth of the company
    - There are many unqualified individuals in technical management positions because of soft skills alone.

    Advice to Management

Advice: Foster an environment where employees don't fear the next reorganization. Be engaging and help to promote your employees through training and mentorship. Have a vision and promote it. You want us to be loyal to the company, well, give us something to be proud and loyal to.

    Pros

Good pay and benefits, good room for growing with the company.

    Cons

Fast pace, and limited freedom on decision making that really impact the business.

    Advice to Management

Looking further then quarterly profits doesn't always hurt. It definitely would help us prepare better for the future.

    Pros

Many good people in office who are helpful and knowledgeable.

90%+ diversity is in HR department, with most, if not all HR/Talent Acquisition being minorities.

    Cons

Turnover rate says it all, not just in office but plants supported by The Woodlands. Below average salary, and that is comparing to non-oil and gas industry which usually pay more. Some of the people in the office are older/worked there many years or part of the old pension plan points system (old pension discontinued early 2000s). The pension is probably the only thing keeping the older generation from leaving. Not many young people, and the ones that are are mostly international folks probably only staying because company is sponsoring their green card. Extremely political, good ole boys club, lots of immature/unnecessary backstabbing by these people. Many people in this office spend more time gossiping and worrying about themselves than doing work and supporting plants; plants are very aware of this (never seen so much unproductivity in my career). Last reorganization in early 2015 has left people getting fired or resigning. Not a good situation, morale at an all time low. Cost cuttings measures being taken yet CEO is handsomely compensated for an industrial gas company. With below average salaries, limited outside training opportunities for professional growth (due to cost cutting measures) and good people leaving, there is no incentive to stay. Even in this oil downturn, do yourself a favor and find something else in Houston.

    Advice to Management

I have no advice. Most companies dont listen to advice nor do they care. Good people are continously leaving and neighboring companies should thank Praxair because they are scooping these people up, in some cases providing a 40-50% pay increase . They are getting these increases because they are standard compensations in the area (gives you an idea how bad the pay at Praxair is).

    Pros

International company with many opportunities to learn new technologies in many different locations.

    Cons

Big company so you can get lose in the shuffle and the company is always looking to "trim the fat."

    Advice to Management

Continue to hire only the best.

    Pros

Safe job, International exposure, Relatively flat organization, Average to lower salaries, Decent benefits, Pension plan & 401k match, Health, Dental

    Cons

Poor talent management, No aggressive drive for growth, Very risk averse, Lack of innovation (industry is mature which on the flip side does lead to stability)

    Advice to Management

Senior managers are lining their pockets and paying lip service to their "beliefs" in employee and company growth. Line managers do decent job, but people with slick talk get promoted to senior levels. Retention is a problem and high performers tend to leave for better opportunities. Diversity is a buzz word with little teeth behind it (Check the list of executives).

    Pros

This company does not give lip service when it comes to safety. There is an exceptional amount of information to take in over the first few months but there are always people who genuinely want to help you find the answers to succeed. The pay is good not great. The work can be challenging especially if your plant is having issues that require major overhaul work. I have often heard in previous jobs "this job would be great if they would quit micromanaging and let us do what needs to be done". That is what happens at Praxair. You are given the tools needed to succeed without supervision hovering over you as you work.

    Cons

I may just have exceptional management but they are great. The biggest con for me is solitude from backup. Being the only one on call for vast areas can be challenging. But if you do your job and are proactive about maintenance this job is great. If there are issues that can not be fixed immediately plan on spending a lot of time at work.

    Advice to Management

Expand training opportunities with more web based LMS. Possibly video conference training.
