    Pros

a paycheck that is not competitive ...

    Cons

    Advice to Management

your employees are your most important asset if you plan on being in business longer than 5 years ...invest in the company instead of stock options

    Pros

Not alot of layers of management. Can be exposed to alot of things, some times out side of your discipline.

    Cons

The culture of this company is not for everyone. It is very political & good olé boy network. There is a complete lack of communication between groups as well as managers & employees. This is probably one of the worse companies for gossiping, back stabbing, and inefficiency. People are not very receptive to hearing about ideas that go against what has been done for years. Every year the company talks about how much they have to cut cost/down size yet constantly make record profits. Moral is extremely low & people are over worked, but the company doesn't care as long as it makes its share holders happy. The only way to be successful is to work long hours & get your nose extremely dirt.

    Advice to Management

The company continues to have high turn overs but haven't done anything to address it. Probably because the company thought process is someone is waiting 2 work for them. So what is really the point of giving advice when no one will listen.

    Pros

Many good people in office who are helpful and knowledgeable. 90%+ diversity is in HR department, with most, if not all HR/Talent Acquisition being minorities.

    Cons

Turnover rate says it all, not just in office but plants supported by The Woodlands. Below average salary, and that is comparing to non-oil and gas industry which usually pay more. Some of the people in the office are older/worked there many years or part of the old pension plan points system (old pension discontinued early 2000s). The pension is probably the only thing keeping the older generation from leaving. Not many young people, and the ones that are are mostly international folks probably only staying because company is sponsoring their green card. Extremely political, good ole boys club, lots of immature/unnecessary backstabbing by these people. Many people in this office spend more time gossiping and worrying about themselves than doing work and supporting plants; plants are very aware of this (never seen so much unproductivity in my career). Last reorganization in early 2015 has left people getting fired or resigning. Not a good situation, morale at an all time low. Cost cuttings measures being taken yet CEO is handsomely compensated for an industrial gas company. With below average salaries, limited outside training opportunities for professional growth (due to cost cutting measures) and good people leaving, there is no incentive to stay. Even in this oil downturn, do yourself a favor and find something else in Houston.

    Advice to Management

I have no advice. Most companies dont listen to advice nor do they care. Good people are continously leaving and neighboring companies should thank Praxair because they are scooping these people up, in some cases providing a 40-50% pay increase . They are getting these increases because they are standard compensations in the area (gives you an idea how bad the pay at Praxair is).

I worked at Praxair full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Lots of international exposure Pay is alright, flexible when weather acts up Lots of opportunity to move between groups if you know the right people

    Cons

Zero diversity, in the few years I was there, out of hundreds of people in the corporate offices, you could count the minorities on a few fingers. Diversity claim is a joke, maybe just to meet EEOC reporting Too many clicks and exclusionary behavior among higher ups Old hands, stuck on doing things the old way. You crank out lots of documents but don't really deliver much because people hide behind documentation instead of getting anything done Lots of incompetent folks hiding behind "process", they will not hesitate to scapegoat / hang others out to dry so you're constantly watching your back ZERO training! ask for training and good luck getting it! I asked for training for years....got none!! Management response was "you don't need to be an expert to do this and that"
