I worked at Praxair full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The perks of this job were the travel miles and pints we got to keep. The people we met on the road. The fact that we really got to be our own boss and be self starters.

    Cons

Traveling at short notice...All the time! Sometimes not even 12 hours notice! Lonely. Salary not great either. Time off was limited.

I have been working at Praxair

    Pros

Good benefits, fair and freindly work environment, minimal travel, large fortune 300 company with global reach yet close to home.

    Cons

Too competetive, Limited opportunities for career advancement within ones own department, forced to seek outside of department for advancement. Salary structure not comunicated well.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Leaders should be more open with employees and communicate changes effectivly rather than let the "Grape Vine" be their best source of information.

    I worked at Praxair

    Pros

There are really nice co-workers, the parking is fair, it is a challenging job, and the job provides training if need be.

    Cons

There is a lot of favoritism within the company regarding management and employee performance reviews. The benefits are not that great.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The management should communicate more effectively with their employees and not play favoritism when reviewing their employees. The benefits should improve.

Current Employee - Microsoft Systems Engineer in Tonawanda, NY

I have been working at Praxair

    Pros

    - Large, diverse company makes it easy to work in a number of positions
    - Strong performing company makes your retirement stock actually worth something.
    - Very capable with its core competencies - Air seperation, distribution

    Cons

    - Global company without a global IT strategy
    - 95% of work in operations is maintaining and deploying the same technology platforms that were developed in the 80's.
    - Lack of vision in upper middle managment sitfles energy and innovation. Concerned with maintaining power structures and empires. Very high turnover rate for younger (40 and under), talented employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You need to find a way to keep to good people.

    I worked at Praxair

    Pros

Great benefits and a lot of opportunity for different job responsibilties, new positions, and domestic and international working experience. They have a great reputation in the industry

    Cons

I have noticed and observed that the vision and strategy is not being communicated down to the managers and associates that can make this a great company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

My recommendation is to have senior management take the time and effort to get down to the mid manager level and lower. People are your greatest asset -- share your vision and motivation.
