I worked at Premier, Inc. full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

The people were great! The pay was good and it felt good doing work that helped the patients in a real way. The opportunities for learning available were good. The special programs were amazing.

    Cons

The training was good but because the workload was so unbalanced some people did not have the opportunity to take advantage of it. Policies were not consistent across units. And the value of Focus on People seems to be suffering the past year or so.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow for more opportunities to take advantage of training across the company as a whole.

I worked at Premier, Inc. full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Dynamic environment that challenges folks to think out of the box; great employee benefits

    Cons

Very competitive environment that does not support and/or create loyalty across its' employees. Supervisors are not supportive and the culture does not support people that give their opinion especially when it is different from the executive team within the department that you work in.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more supportive of your employees and hold managers, directors, especially VPs accountable for not providing the support their employees need and require in order to be productive, Additionally, the good old boy environment is alive and well at the company. The company does not support the professional development and/or succession planning to retain or promote ethnic minorities. Just look at the C-Suite, Field Force and the VP levels, do you see the diversity that is represented across this nation and/or the diverse patient populations that the shareholders provide healthcare to. I would not recommend a diverse candidate to apply for a job at this company because they will give opportunities to folks without degrees before they give a diverse candidate the same opportunity where they require you to meet the requirements day one.

I have been working at Premier, Inc. as a contractor for more than 3 years

    Pros

Stimulating work when at member sites. There are many very intelligent people to work with, but on the other hand, there are those not so that are placed in leadership positions, mostly due to long term past relationships.

    Cons

Leaders seem to overlook bad behavior, it's all about getting the dollars

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If people are willing to tell you like it is, listen

I have been working at Premier, Inc. full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good co-workers. Lots to learn. Honorable mission.

    Cons

There are a lot of VP's. Not enough people to get the busy work done, so expect to work many hours, with very little recognition for a job well done.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continuing to add responsibilities to peoples roles without adequate compensation will lead to good employees leaving. The perception that Premier values their employees is beginning to fade fast. Churn an burn.

I worked at Premier, Inc. full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Benefits- offers multiple options for retirement (Roth 401k, standard 401k, etc). Also offers FSA, PPO and HSA options.

Movement within company- Opportunities are available to move within the company

    Cons

-Base pay tends to lag behind competitors in the industry

-Upper management in some areas of the company (pharmacy for example) are out of touch with the lower levels of their respective departments. Directives are extremely vague and there is no organization to speak of. For example, reports created by lower level staff members are constantly requested by the department VP to be resent months after they were originally sent out. At other times, management will request an analysis be made and when it is finally completed, either forget that the analysis was requested or never use the analysis at all.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better organization...especially in regard to reports that are sent to you by lower level staff members

Specific directions- vague directions do not help management or the employee that they are being dictated to,

Be more engaged- Actually take the time to know what is going on within the department and ask your employees what projects they are currently working on

I have been working at Premier, Inc. full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Leadership is very driven and seeks to innovate at every corner. Benefits are on par or surpass those offered by competitors. Leadership has focused on increasing communication to employees.

    Cons

Very poor work/life balance. Great visions and ideas are not executed properly and completely before moving on to the next big idea. Constant changes in direction make it hard for employees to stay current. Very little opportunity for growth and advancement in certain areas.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to communicate to employees. Don't neglect core competencies.
