I have been working at Premier, Inc. full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good coworkers who work hard and want to deliver the best product possible. Immediate manager is good to work for and cares about employee.

    Cons

Confusing leaders in IT organization; out of touch with employees and blames staff instead of realizing their failure to lead.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

CEO is motivational and should staff direct reports/leaders to have the same leadership skills. HR should take feedback about management shared many times by exiting employees and take action instead of not acting at all.

Work-life balance is an issue, no succession planning process to develop and promote employees within the organization.

    Pros

Provide healthcare providers with a lot of great strategies.

    Cons

Company values are not practiced, for example, some of the folks on the leadership team can be in your face rude and unprofessional in their management style of their direct reports. Low to no tolerance for folks to think out of the box and bring a different perspective for consideration.

I have been working at Premier, Inc. full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Premier has a noble mission to improve the health of communities by lowering costs of care while improving outcomes. The company is doing well under the leadership of its current chief officers.

    Cons

Communication to employees has been declining for years. Executive management is growing more and more out of touch w/ employees. Training is woefully out of date; orientation for our new hires was consistently full of outdated information. The vast majority of staff drive themselves too hard, consistently working nights and weekends - in part a result of lean staffing in many areas; in part due to a lack of allowance of time to plan effectively (too many things are urgent and needed yesterday)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The executive team should not underestimate the value of communicating to employees at all levels of the organization. Also understand that no one is giving their true best when consistently pushing so hard.

    Pros

The business is solid, good colleagues, benefits are good, not much accountability for delivering results, lots of opportunity to work from home and work remotely.

    Cons

Very little differentiation for performance -- everyone gets the same raise, feels a little like working for the government, politics are what get you ahead at this company, get someone senior to like you, and you're all set

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Wake up, you have incompetent leadership starting at the very top

Flexible work schedule and will allow you to work from home as needed.

    Cons

Work life balance does not exist and I'm not sure if Senior Management cares.

    Pros

The people were great! The pay was good and it felt good doing work that helped the patients in a real way. The opportunities for learning available were good. The special programs were amazing.

    Cons

The training was good but because the workload was so unbalanced some people did not have the opportunity to take advantage of it. Policies were not consistent across units. And the value of Focus on People seems to be suffering the past year or so.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow for more opportunities to take advantage of training across the company as a whole.

I worked at Premier, Inc. full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Dynamic environment that challenges folks to think out of the box; great employee benefits

    Cons

Very competitive environment that does not support and/or create loyalty across its' employees. Supervisors are not supportive and the culture does not support people that give their opinion especially when it is different from the executive team within the department that you work in.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more supportive of your employees and hold managers, directors, especially VPs accountable for not providing the support their employees need and require in order to be productive, Additionally, the good old boy environment is alive and well at the company. The company does not support the professional development and/or succession planning to retain or promote ethnic minorities. Just look at the C-Suite, Field Force and the VP levels, do you see the diversity that is represented across this nation and/or the diverse patient populations that the shareholders provide healthcare to. I would not recommend a diverse candidate to apply for a job at this company because they will give opportunities to folks without degrees before they give a diverse candidate the same opportunity where they require you to meet the requirements day one.

    Pros

Stimulating work when at member sites. There are many very intelligent people to work with, but on the other hand, there are those not so that are placed in leadership positions, mostly due to long term past relationships.

    Cons

Leaders seem to overlook bad behavior, it's all about getting the dollars

    Pros

Good co-workers. Lots to learn. Honorable mission.

    Cons

There are a lot of VP's. Not enough people to get the busy work done, so expect to work many hours, with very little recognition for a job well done.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continuing to add responsibilities to peoples roles without adequate compensation will lead to good employees leaving. The perception that Premier values their employees is beginning to fade fast. Churn an burn.
