I worked at Premier Research full-time

    Pros

Small environment lends itself to a close relationship with management and co-workers.

    Cons

Small environment lends itself to "clicks" and unprofessional work relationships. The department in which I worked was also disorganized and underdeveloped. Standard industry practices in my experience there was not being adhered to rather the "Premier way". This practice led to a lot of turnover and inexperienced employee's.

    Pros

Worked with a great management team on my assigned project.

    Cons

Line management was disappointing. They were not interested when it was brought to their attention that one of the managers on the team could not do their job effectively due to lack of knowledge of position. Significant nepotism; one person in high position brought in, multiple others that person knew were then brought in and promotions among those people abounded.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Carefully consider hiring multiple people from the same company.

    Pros

There are truly a lot of bright, dedicated, hard working and genuinely good people working at Premier.

    Cons

These bright, dedicated, hard working and genuinely good people's work and input is not valued. Schmoozers and bullies are rewarded and promoted- people that tell you to your face that they don't know how to log into software specifc to their department's work function or SR. Management in Finance whose interactions with staff are complained about and their boss says "don't take it personally, she talks that way to everyone". These are the people that are valued. Professionalism or the lack there of starts from the top down. Also, the company is wasteful in spending and will spend money on software and other resources to prop up incompetent staff because they like them or they rolled something out inefficiently that was the manager's idea so they're calling it a success to make themselves look good but then when it's time to cut back, they release the good workers and then just dump their work on the remaining competent staff until they get frustrated and leave.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire managers that will roll up their sleeves and work and who also know how to foster a positive work environment by bringing out the best in people.

I have been working at Premier Research as a contractor

    Pros

Position required no travel, strict 40 hrs and is home based. No direct reports.

    Cons

Contracted with BI client. BI decreasing vendor rates to save money. PRG cut contract hourly amounts across the board for all persons working with this client by 11% (for me I lost $17K per year). BI now cutting contractor amounts again not allowing for 10hr work days during BI company holiday weeks and not allowing flexible hrs. No longer profitable to continue the contract with PRG/BI.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More support needed on pushback to BI. Experienced contractors will be replaced by less experienced/lower paid workers.

The company has focused too much on the buy and build strategy and not enough on nurturing the talent on hand.

    Pros

Sick and vacation time are all under on umbrella, thus for those not sick often they do not "lose" time that wouldn't be used. The ability to carry over greater than 40 hours of vacation time is also a plus. The office atmosphere is very relaxed and they dress code casual. Camaraderie among veteran employees is good.

    Cons

If you are a new hire there is not a good system to integrate you into your team. Rarely do you meet the team members (if regional) and if they are local it takes a long time for them to warm up to you. The company does not contribute to a retirement plan and the benefits are limited. Health care is provided but it continues to rise each year, substantially. Upper management does not communicate to their employees on a regular basis. No career pathing is available and many talented people are leaving to further their careers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management needs to create clear career paths for employees, create some measurable goals that can be obtained and provide an incentive based annual review.

    Pros

Casual. Mostly friendly. Commutability is good. Convenient to so many services and products.

    Cons

Mediocre upper management. Oblivious to efforts and input of day-to-day employees. Pay is pitiful - way below average for region. Information shared with specific team members and not others. Odd way to perform business.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your employees. Get to know who does what. Bring salary levels up to middle range for region and for field. Learn how to recognize cliques and stop them from breaking up teams and morale.

    Small company with small direction

Former Employee - Data Associate in Bloomingdale, IL

    I worked at Premier Research

    Pros

Its a small company so everyone treats you like family which could be good and bad. You get exposure to doing many tasks across departments so gaining experience in the many facets of data management is possible.

    Cons

Due to being a small company you feel that everyone wants to know your personal life. There are not many opportunities to advance and management is not open to new ideas on how to become more efficient in performing tasks. There is a strong sense of favoritism amongst who gets promoted by management. There is no training provided to new associates and management is not readily available to assist with questions. Its basically a sink or swim situation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide some sort of training to all new employees regardless of position level. Every job should count no matter how small. Listen to employee needs, concerns, and ideas if you want to retain the best employees that will help your organization grow and succeed.
