  5. My experience has been decent; however, opportunities for advancement into managerial positions are limited.

    Pros

The benefits are really good. You're fully vested from day one. Not many places offer 17 days of vacation, 6 sick days, 1 volunteer day that can be used from day one.

    Cons

I find nepotism to be used more than selecting the "best candidate for the job" formula. No enough diversity in management.

    Advice to Management

There is a disconnect between those of us who perform daily tasks and those in offices. The gap should be bridged when developing job specific criteria.

    Pros

It's a great opportunity, very legit and you get to travel .

    Cons

You have to pay a $99 fee for a background check. You have to have license issues by the state on order to make the money & that requires a state class. After the class you take the test & then after that it's still some time before you receive your license so it's a long process and could take months after months before you get to actually start making money. Also it's kind of like telemarketing.

    Advice to Management

    Keep your office super professional

    Pros

Great money earning potential. Manage your own time. You're in business for yourself, not by yourself. Lots of support and a largely untapped market.

    Cons

Because Representatives earn through recruits as well as products, recruiting is emphasized. Thus, creating an external view of the company that is of a pyramidal structure in nature or "hierarchy" as it's called. Unfortunately, from the outset the company does have a "pyramid scheme" reputation. However, if you have a strong sales backbone, you won't let that get in the way of your success. Also, like in any investment business where you manage your own decisions, when you're starting out; you must tap into your personal contacts in order to create a book of business and stay in what is called a "warm market."

    Advice to Management

Devote time to providing a serious, structured training program and/or seminars for licensed Representatives on Life Insurance, Mutual Funds and other products. There is no guideline or detailed paths to follow for orientation. As a result, many newcomers feel disoriented, despite the big dreams that are promoted by other Reps. with their projected presentations.

    Pros

If you think you may enjoy working in financial services, this company offers you the chance to start part-time

    Cons

Make sure you join an active office (weekly rep meetings/training) with admin. support. You don't want to learn this business alone.

    Pros

Training provided for getting licensed and the teachers are experienced agents. RVPs and upper management make themselves available to new agents for mentoring and learning the trade.

    Cons

Once you are trained and licensed you are expected to build your own client base and make your own way. No leads or anything given to new agents. If you already have people you know are interested in the products you can make out well. It is NOT recommended for folks new to a community with no contacts.

    Advice to Management

Giving new agents some starting leads would help a lot - especially agents who are new to the area and have no contacts to build from.

    Pros

You can work when you want. Starting off is a lot easier than growing "your own business". Get company overall. Love what they do and stand for!

    Cons

You get paid per client and it can be difficult to make money once your outside your own network.
