Speak with a singular voice and put a plan in place that speaks to what you say is the focus of the company

    Pros

Probuild has many great associates from many different legacy company's. The associates always seem to have the same vested interest to support the company in any way possible

    Cons

Upper management does not take control of negative situations quick enough many great associates have been lost due to upper management not taking proper action to secure the positions.
Sales management does not push outside sales hard enough to sell the programs that are in place to help earn additional revenue for the company.

    Advice to Management

It is to late now with the sale to Builders First Source but if any current management does remain they need to take a real hard look at them selves to see what is causing the good guys to leave the company.

    Pros

Benefits are decent, but not great. I like the people I work with, that is the only thing that keeps me here.

    Cons

They will work you till you say no. Been with the company six years and don't make a penny more than I did the day I started

    Advice to Management

Check what the market will bear and base salaries from that. The housing market is back, but your salary band width doesn't reflect it.

    Pros

Decent compensation and good benefits. The more you sell, the more you make. I enjoyed working with the different contractors and homeowners.

    Cons

It's a very large company. Upper management was always worried about sales margins. Although they were willing to adjust pricing when sensitive projects came up for bid. Many nights were spent estimating projects to get them back to the contractors in a timely manner.

    Pros

Great People to work with. Pay was decent. Hours were acceptable.

    Cons

STRESS. Didn't even know who your supervisor was going to be month to month. Reports coming out of your butt! Terrible Morale. When people were laid off, they were happy to get out! Customer service was terrible. All small contractors were forgotten. Only concerned with High Volume, Low Margin Builders. Really stupid business plan.

    Advice to Management

Settle on a Business plan with Regional Mgmt or National Mgmt. Whatever it may be, just settle on one. Remember ALL your customers, not just the ones you have facetime with.

    Pros

Great upper management, largest lumber supplier in the US. Has potential to be superior in the industry. I worked in installed sales, job was awesome, diverse, a lot of responsibility and reward for a job well done. Fast paced, upbeat, positive work environment, fellow associates were great to work with, strong team atmosphere. Fun and Challenging.

    Cons

Training was severely lacking, kind of "thrown to the wolves" learned on the job. Direct level management needs training, a lot of transition at the ground level, some poor management decisions negatively affected the department. in general and individuals in particular. Shipping, production and estimating not working well together causing a lot of issues in the field.

    Advice to Management

Need consistency and transparency. Policies state ethics and honesty are crucial and expected at every level, please make it so. Select more carefully those in mgmt. level positions as the wrong people in the wrong positions can adversely affect the lives and careers of others. Initiate stricter and more consistent training and discipline policies and procedures. One person, especially at lower level management, shouldn't have the power to dismiss people for speculative or agenda driven reasons.

    Pros

Good benefits, quick to give promotions, willing to train. Lots of overtime during peak seasons. Management is accessible in the plant.

    Cons

Never honest about employee pay scale. Quick to layoff and give multiple responsibilities/jobs to one person for the same pay. Pay does not match competitions pay

    Advice to Management

Be more open to competitive pay which will breed more loyalty.

    Pros

Company has good health benefits. The 401k is pretty good also. Has a great support team in corporate office to help resolve issues.

    Cons

The stores and facilities are greatly under staffed. This places unreasonable work load on key personal that goes unnoticed.
