    Could be better

    Relief Manager (Current Employee)

Prosyou don't really have to do much once you figure out how to organize your day, the schedule is always sent out in advance so you can make plans. Good work life balance.

Consno security.....I always feel unsafe coming to work at certain locations because anybody and everybody (including bums that rent there) can come in and they always make me and other tenants feel uncomfortable.

bad pay....they pay you 9/hr and you work full time.....you work a lot to get a bad check that you can get at a part time job.

dishonest company......let's just say this company will leave you always looking like the bad guy to renting tenants because you're the only one they can see and complain to about rent rising and other horrible things they act like they can't fix.

upper management is pretty much a bunch of inexperienced rich people who just want you to do things the PS way (which is not the right way)

    Great Career Path

    District Manager (Current Employee)

ProsI never thought I would work for a Storage Company. I came from a fast pace and high stress environment that was not supportive and I used to work almost 60 hours a week.Public Storage is a great company to work for. There is a nice work/life balance here. I've heard from my supervisors at many levels to not spend so much time working after hours, which I chose to do. They only hire District Managers from outside with previous experience. The employees and management here are great. There are many oppurtunity to move up after the District Manager level. The workload is manageable. I enjoy having my own team and creating a positive and friendly sales culture. It is great to see how your leadership and coaching can affact behavior and change. If you want to develop your leadership and management skills and build a career with management, this is a great company to work for. They are evolving their sales culture and continue to be the industry leader and I am proud to be part of it!

ConsNo company car but I can expense my miles

Advice to Senior ManagementGive District Manager a little more autonomy to run the business.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Best company I have ever worked for

    Regional Vice President (Current Employee)

ProsIn my experience at PS - the financial payouts are fantastic but that's based on a forced ranking. This allows competitive, solid performers to make very high incomes, average performers to make competitive incomes and poor performers find themselves with lower incomes. The compensation plan we use is the fairest I have ever experienced as an employee and personally - I love it.

I have always been impressed how seriously PS takes the hiring process. We're very particular about who we hire; we are looking for future leaders and the potential for upward mobility is fantastic for employees that understand how to build high performance teams.

A core expectation within the company is to develop people, create a positive working environment and to treat others with respect. I will never forget hearing my former Divisional Vice President talking to another DM while I was a DM trainee about the fundamental importance of building people up and not cutting them down when coaching their performance or behaviors. That always stuck with me and I just knew at that moment that I would love this company. 4 years later ....

ConsWorking some Saturdays and Sundays during our busy season. If a person isn't willing to work 1 Saturday and Sunday a month during our peak busy season - they're not a good fit for our company.

We are a very structured company. After years of trial and error - the company has determined a key set of behaviors that work for our business and it's the expectation that everyone in the company embraces that structure. I was always a very entrepreneurial leader in past careers and that approach does not work here; knowing that going into the position made it very easy for me to accept and to embrace that culture.

We take leadership seriously. If a person isn't good at hiring or developing people - they're probably not a good fit. If a person isn't serious about managing their business and creating an environment where employees can flourish - they're probably not going to be a good fit.

Advice to Senior ManagementI'd tell our executive team to continue down the path that we are already on. I am tremendously proud of this company and I appreciate the culture.

I'd recommend more 360 degree feedback surveys for DM's and above. I think that's a very eye opening process that when done properly can produce tremendous benefits for all.

Too much work for very little pay

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsGreat hours if you like working every weekend. Would recommended this type work for anyone looking towards retirement. You won't make enough to save for it. Great for college graduates

ConsHave to work every weekend including Sundays is horrible. Boring and slow. No one wants to conduct business on a Sunday. No chance for advancement because company doesn't promote within. No rehire policy and no raises. If you love blowing up customers phone asking for payments, this is the place for you.

Advice to Senior ManagementShare the wealth with the people that is doing all the work.

    Fantastic Opportunity

Senior District Manager (Current Employee) Philadelphia, PA

ProsThe opportunity at Public Storage is excellent. Public Storage is the market leader in a stable industry and is poised for growth. For that reason those in leadership roles have tremendous room for advancement. The work load is challenging but not unmanageable. The work schedule has flexibility with enables work/life balance. The company leadership provides excellent direction without being overbearing. They allow leaders to lead. Upper management is approachable and provides support to the field. My entire experience at Public Storage has been positive.

ConsThere are times when work is necessary at night or on weekends.

Advice to Senior ManagementStay the course and continue to grow the company.

    GREAT COMPANY!

Multi Unit Management (Current Employee) Phila, PA

ProsI have been with this Company for 2 years. I came to work her because of the growth potential and to invest myself in a stable Company. It was a great choice. I can work in a business that has great job security and in my time, I have personally experienced the growth potential. I was able to get promoted to the next level. It is a great feeling, to work hard and focus on the right things, and reap the benefits of advancing my career.

ConsMulti-unit positions require a lot of dedication and hard-work. However, you find that in any company. If you are not afraid of hard work and holding high expectations for your own performance, then this is the Company you can grow with.

    Solid Company

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsStable and pleasant environment to work in. Plenty to do. Fun activities year round. Rose Parade float. Smart and approachable management. Fair salary.

ConsA bit conservative at times. Purchase approval process is a bit slow.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet to know the people on the ground a little better. You are smart and good natured, but a bit out of touch with the men and women on the ground. But keep up all the good things you are doing such as helping your employees improve their performance, being flexible, professional and friendly!

Amazing company to work for, great benefits, and tons of opportunity for advancement!

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsIt is difficult to start over after working for the same company for 20 years. I had a tough decision to make three and a half years ago when I chose Public Storage, but after the interview process I knew this was the place for me! I was given the opportunity to interview with several layers of management, each interview giving me more reasons why I wanted to be a part of this exceptional team.
The culture here is one of endless support that I had never experienced until I joined the Public Storage team. I love the fact that there is room at the top for everyone with tons of opportunity for advancement. This company takes great pride in the development of its employees and because of this I have enjoyed two promotions within the last three and a half years.
The work-life balance here is a breath of fresh air. The restaurant business didn't allow me to experience this wonderful convenience. The benefits don't stop there; medical, dental, generous vacation package, rewarding incentive plan, 401k with company match, just to name a few.
I'm very happy to work for a company that values integrity and trust. This is a company with a solid business model that understands how to treat its employees.

ConsI would like to see us continue to improve our technology. At times the field experiences added obstacles due to out dated equipment/software. The company has recently upgraded phone lines and seems committed to making technology advancements a priority.

Advice to Senior ManagementContinue to grow and develop!
