I have been working at Public Storage full-time

    Pros

Able to have a balance between work and family - don't have to work extended hours.

    Cons

Not a company that focuses on employee development.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Develop your people so that they can advance to the next level - otherwise the risk is losing good employees who know a lot about the company.

I have been working at Public Storage full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great support from current and previous district managers, all upper management is very supportive and wants to see property managers and reliefs succeed. I like the hours very much we always have a start time of 9:30am. Saturdays and Sundays we go home 1 hour early. Team support within my district is fabulous. We all work very well with each other and strive to help each other as often as it's needed. I am a KTP ( key district trainer ) I thoroughly enjoy teaching and training new hires to work to a standard that is higher than whats expected and helping them to succeed. We work alone alot and are given the privilege of our own time management with periodic check-ins from our district manager. Bonus program in place for top performers with an average of 40% of team members benefiting from a yearly bonus. Top performers receive opportunities for special prizes like trips ( for 2 ) and extra bonus $. Better than decent medical and dental with eye care insurance available other benefit program in place is working advantage available to all employees with numerous discounts and coupons with email alerts when discounst in selected grouping is chosen.

    Cons

Yearly increases are not good, last year I received the same 4% raise that under performers and average performers received, I am a over achiever. Upward mobility is nonexistent and they will not promote within. 3 holidays a year off Christmas, Thanksgiving and New years day. PTO (paid time off) went from 17 days yearly to 10 days for a total of sick time and vacation time combined,

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider yearly increases to fewer employees to stay under strict budget and give adequate raises to those employees who work to higher standard and over achieve. Or raise the budget for increases as to raise value of the employee and performance overall. Bottom line is, when an employee feels valued, they do a better job and will work harder for the employer, and when they don't, Public Storage needs to let people go, it's too difficult to get fired. I feel the company holds on the under valued/under performing employees for way too long.

    Pros

Excellent Management training to get experience to advance in life as a whole. Corporate housing is an excellent opportunity as well.

    Cons

Scheduling from week to week can be a bit arduous, and lunch time can be a "when you get a chance" scenario, depending on the size and location of the property.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Experienced Managers are an asset not a liability.

I have been working at Public Storage full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

I love the people I get to work along side. Getting to work independently and as a part of a larger team. Paid time off. Health benefits. 401K. A variety of tasks through out a given day/month. Opportunity to travel to other stores. Develop skills in the area of sales and over all people skills. Thorough training by excellent trainers. Help people during times of need.

    Cons

Required work on weekends and at the end of the month. Lack of communication from the top to the bottom. Less than desired pay. Clocking in and out.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Increase long term field employee's pay and return the monthly/quarterly bonus structure. Provide opportunity to move up with in PS or communicate ways that PS can grow and promote from within using field employees.

I worked at Public Storage full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

You work steady hours and I found it enjoyable to have both office and outdoor work.

    Cons

Low wages, dead-end job. Generally speaking, I have noticed that in the storage industry you need to bounce around between companies in order to acquire new titles. Otherwise, I did not notice any in-house promotions. The property manager and relief manager positions are generally the same minus some direct responsibility by the latter.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay high wages to hold onto talent.
