I have been working at Public Storage

    Pros

PS has financially strong balance sheet and it is the leader in the industry. The benefits and compensation are in line with other companies of its size. I believe that there is always room for growth if you want to challenge yourself in your job. It is very stable and one can see themselves retiring here. If you work hard and contribute to your department you will be be recognized and compensated accordingly.

    Cons

Maybe the company can provide more perks like Thanksgiving turkeys and company picnics for employees and their families. Maybe they can give out more cash prizes at the company holiday party. Maybe PS can absorb more of the employee's health insurance premiums.

I have been working at Public Storage

    Pros

One of the best things about working for Public Storage is the work and independence. You are allowed to make decisions that affect the company in positive way and earn the respect of management. If you are a good, ethical, and hard worker management will show confidence in yours skills and allow you to grow and earn a good living. I have been with Public Storage for over 20 years and have enjoiyed the business challenges and the opportunities for growth professionally and intellectually.

    Cons

Public Storage is a publicly traded company and as such must continue to grow and change in order to be competitive in the real estate market. Some people are not good at adapting to change in the business world and may find it difficult to understand business decisions a company makes to keep it successful.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to reward and acknowledge key perfomers who contribute to the success of the company big and small.

I have been working at Public Storage full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

First of all, Public Storage is a very solid company that is well run and in great financial shape. So, you don't have to worry about layoffs and accross the board cost cuts. The management is very smart and knows how to run a company smoothly. It is not a disfunctional company at all.

Beyond that, the people here are very nice and treat each other very good. I have been here 25+ years and am very lucky to have found this company. We stay busy, but we I don't work any overtime for the most part. So, we can all live with that. Work at Public Storage if you want to be part of an S&P 500 company that feels kinda like a neighborhood real estate company. Good atmosphere.

    Cons

I really don't have any. Maybe a little more contribution to our 401K would be nice.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

How about profit sharing for "all" of the employees.

I have been working at Public Storage

    Pros

Long term stability and a positive working environment. A senior leadership team that has grown revenue while developing a dynamic business model that is extremely responsive to its customer base. Great people, I am a long term employee and have enjoyed the worth ethic and passion of my work colleagues across the whole organization. This is a company with world class operational processes and high standards, it has a culture that is willing to explore and generate new ideas within the industry while remaining laser-focused on the key drivers of the business every day. You need to bring your ‘A’ game but it is truly worth it.

    Cons

There are no real cons in truth. It is a high performing environment so commitment is big but it’s been very positive in my experience.

I have been working at Public Storage full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

There is an open line of communication between management and employees. This is a stable organization that will provide you with long-term career stability. The compensation plan is very competitive within the retail industry. The management team operates with a high level of integrity and personal accountability. They value family time and a good work life balance.

    Cons

In order to maintain the competitive edge and company growth, hard work is required. Some may view this as taking away from personal life. If you struggle with time mgmt., and/or personal accountability, then this may not be the company for you. The company hires only "A" players

I have been working at Public Storage full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

I wanted to comment on Public Storage and provide some thoughts as my outlook is very positive. When I am interviewing prospective candidates, a question that I am regularly asked without fail is “What do I like most about the company?” My reply is always the people I work with. Full disclosure, I am in a management position, but whether it’s the property personnel I interact with, DMs, Regional Managers, Corporate Execs or Support, there is a common trait within our organization, and that is we pride ourselves on hard work. Public Storage fosters a strong culture of teamwork and a palpable desire to provide support to each other, at all levels within the organization. For those that are willing to learn, remain challenged and bring their best selves to work each day will do very well here.
Furthermore, Public Storage is a company that is growing, and that makes this an incredibly dynamic place to work. With strong leadership, very little debt, a keen desire to grow intelligently coupled with the enviable position of the market leader – for all these reasons and more, it reinforces my decision to be here.
The opportunities are present for hourly employees to take on more challenging roles as well; agreeable full-time hours allow for the opportunity to go to school and a high quality of life; and on-site apartments allow living accommodations in desirable markets. For District Managers, with our incredible growth, comes the opportunity to move into higher-level positions with increased responsibility. In short, Public Storage presents a very dynamic environment that will reward those who are willing to learn and put in the time and effort.
Are we perfect? No. But few organizations are. Is it a place work making a living or building a career? Absolutely.

    Cons

We are growing and with change comes discomfort at times. But the fact that we are willing to look at how we operate and reassess our business, this I view as very positive. A stable, veteran CEO, a dynamic COO, excellent Executive Leaders, a thoughtful HR team, plus a workforce that is for the most part highly engaged, all help to keep our company pointed in the right direction.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to act with integrity and continue to foster the development of people at all levels.

I have been working at Public Storage

    Pros

Ive been working for public storage for some time now, and i cant say i relate to the reviews im seeing on here. From the beginning, the SDM who hired me has been very confident in my abilities. He has shown me much encouragement & continously gives me props for what i do. My DM is absolutely phenomenal. He listens to my every need and responds to every text message and call almost immediately. He also gives me a sense of security, he lets me know hes here for me and hes got my back. I dont know if its the region im in, but in my district we work as a team. I couldnt be happier. For those complaining about numbers and scripts, we are SALES people. Of course theyre going to expect good numbers from us!

    Cons

Having to work every weekend lol , but of course you know this will be required from the moment you are interviewed. If youre going to complain about it, just dont take the job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reward the SDMs and DMs who actually try to work with their team as a family. They are also put under much pressure. Employees should be able to review their managers so you can see past the numbers.

I have been working at Public Storage full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Being a part of a dynamic company who is the leader in the industry gives me an incentive to want to contribute my best effort and do my share to tackle the chalenges to not only become number one in the industry but to stay number one. Been with the company over 22 years and created friendships that are dear to me which I would not replace for anything else. This is my second home and its leadership inspires me to perform at work the same way I would perform for my own business.

    Cons

Field employees often change and when turnover occurs and you are dependant on information support, you'll have to find a way to obtain it regardless.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More training to new hires to learn and understand company policies and procedures.
