Management is awful. Customers treat you like dirt.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at Publix part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexible scheduling. If you're a student, they will often work with you on your hours, although I have had friends with different experiences, but it seems this happens outside of the Customer Service Department where they have less people to work those shifts putting strain on staff who need days off.

Decent pay, although you'll find that your pay will differ to other workers for arbitrary reasons.

Publix offers benefits and these are good, however if you're like me, most of them are off limits as they are for associates who work full time.

Publix gives stock and bonuses to the associates which is nice, however isn't mind blowing to be quite honest.

    Cons

Some of the worst managers I have ever seen in my life. Favoritism to the highest esteem. Favoritism isn't always a bad thing, it's okay when favoritism is applied to something reasonable such as work ethic, however this is not the case. Some of the staff that are held to high esteem are literally some of the most unproductive staff there is in the store. Managers will hold everyone accountable but themselves for the outcome of the work. They will not handle conflicts professionally and will only handle them in the manner that is the most convenient for them. They are lazy hypocrites, and sadly the whole store falls for that.

Much of your hardwork will likely go unrecognized and will be as admissible as another associate who does enough to get by.

If you don't fight for your pay, they may as well give you short raises while deserving more. In this situation it's the squeaky wheel that gets the oil. Make reasonable arguments for your pay increase if you truly are a hard working associate getting the short end of the stick. Sadly this happens because 90% of the time truly your managers will not even be there to even witness your work ethic so a lot of your efforts will go unnoticed. The reasons why they are not there...well that's something that I've mentioned up above. Worst managers ever.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Seriously step up your game. At least in my store, I couldn't be baffled how some of my managers came to be. But seeing how they did, it was through who they knew. I am a customer service staff member and am often assigned to manage the front and I will handle situations far better than the managers that I have. Quit texting your boyfriend and actually run the store instead of leaving me to do it. It leaves workers with an unfair treatment of working harder than you while you get payed more. It's unjust and feelings of dissatisfaction will arise. Actually care for your associates as people, instead of only thinking of yourself and how to get ahead in your career.

    Pros

Good benefits 401K, and stock dividend checks. If you have a good manager you will get raises if you earn them.

    Cons

The hours are varying I see that I am one of 3 employees that get few hours yet people who were rude to me while working get 30 hours a week. You will get difference reasons why they arent giving you hours. i was written up for being hospitalized and missing work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please try to treat people with respect and not be deceitful as It creates a poor work environment. People aren't recognized for there accomplishments and mistakes stand out.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When I was working there they would aggressively push us to offer boxes to customers. They made us offer boxes that grocery products were shipped in. It made the store unruly and made customers uncomfortable. I remember there was an executive coming to review our store and they asked the front service clerks to hide the boxes, as they made the store front look unkempt. They were trying to increase their items per bag but quite frankly this may have cost them to lose customers by taking away from customer experience. Customer service is the foundation Publix was built on and I found this method to be contradictory. Packing 15 pounds of product into a 6 gallon Gerber baby box for older and lady customers just isn't appropriate, especially not just to get items per bag number up.

Of course I don't have the data to prove it but I personally believe they trade bagging efficiency for customer experience and likely a decreased ratio of customer return.

I have been working at Publix part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

One of the only good reasons to work for this company would be if you were working part time and going to school. They are very fair when it comes to allowing you to change your availability and when you ask for time off.

    Cons

There are plenty of cons about working for Publix. First of all, if you aren't a Customer Service Staff than the favoritism game is strong. If you are not a favorite, regardless of how hard you work you will not get the hours that you want and you will see that you are working 10 times harder than everyone around you and still constantly being reprimanded. They really hate it when you call-in when you are sick. They try to avoid sending people home who are sick. Some of the managers do not know how to do any work. If you do get hours then your hours could be really long maybe 10 hours and only receiving a 30 minute break. It will take you forever to move up in a position and the pay is horrible.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn to do the job at hand, stop eating in front of us, stop playing on your phone, allow us to have water at our registers (some of us have health problems), be fair, don't play favoritism, don't guilt your employees, show some appreciation for how hard some of your employees work, let go the employees who do not work hard and who cheat the company

I have been working at Publix full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Came to work 13 years ago for Publix because the work environment for a retail pharmacy was superb. There were great benefits, great bonuses, and support hours were appropriate for allowing pharmacy technician assistance. Business grew because the associates were there and had the time to provide excellent patient and customer service care. The work environment has now deteriorated horriby as this corporation has become more obsessed with only the financial end of pharmacy.

    Cons

Pharmacists are RBU (retail business units) by the strategy map. Pharmacists are expected to fill prescriptions within 15 minutes regardless of safety. Support hours have been cut to 70% of what was being allotted even 5 years ago even though prescription volume has doubled. This lack of support staff and addition of multiple tasks, programs, retroactive financial and work goals, drive throughs, and daily reports on lack of performance has led to an impossible, dangerous, stressful work environment. Publix's pharmacy philosophy previously was to do things the Publix way and within the Publix culture. Now, corporate executives state that "we are still better than Walgreens, CVS, and Wal-mart." This philosophy is contrary to the previous belief of allowing health care professionals to shine while emphasizing dedication to improving our local communities.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management has forgotten that providing a positive work environment with appropriate staffing makes for a positive pharmacy staff and positive pharmacy experience for the patient. This dynamic, in turn, creates growth, promotes professionalism, and establishes a refreshing pharmacy experience for the patient. When these three factors are present, the business grows and the profits flood into the pharmacy. Positive work environment was the first key axiom established by founder George W. Jenkins, and it was the reason that Publix was a fantastic company for employment. The current business model is contrary to this philosophy, and as a result, good pharmacists are leaving rapidly.

    Pros

Very clean store. Floor stays organized 98% of the time. Organized clean work area makes for safe working conditions , product change overs and price changes.

    Cons

Seamed like when an opening to move up came around , someone from a Florida store was chosen , instead of a local hire know matter who had the most over all experience.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have one on ones with team members for their input of the over all store ops. not just at review time. This can help in over all attitude of everyone.
