I have been working at Publix part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

If you are trying to figure out what you want to do with your life good place to work because of the flexibility in the schedule

    Cons

If you try to transfer stores its nearly impossible. Hard working people don't get the full raise they deserve because the managers bonus will go down if they do, especially in stores where managers have been there 3 years plus. And the average is 1.5 years before they get moved to another store greedy company to work for so look out

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Respect employees the way you want to be respected

    Pros

the pay and the job is great but i is very hard to risein th company unless you have a manager that is willing to help you out, am in the customer service department at store #1463 and my managers just stand in front and do nothing allday

    Cons

it is hard to rise īn company you, have to b there for a while and hn your pay doesnt realy ho up by that much unless you promote to a manager posution and that might take a while

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

stop being lazy and do some work i know all stores are not the same but store #1463 the only people that dont do work is the customer and the assistant customer service managers and they have reälly bad attituted to be working in retail and be a manager

I have been working at Publix

    Pros

-Being a part time employee they are really accommodating with your schedule if you need to trade shifts or get time off
-Starting pay for baggers and cashiers is $8.00 which is $.75 more than GA minimum wage
-If you move near another Publix you are almost certainly going to get a job at another Publix if you transfer
-Some outstanding co workers a few I am good friends with now

    Cons

-No employee discount. Most of the benefits are geared towards people making Publix a career, part timer benefits consists of a small inventory bonus every few months and a coupon for a free item (usually undesirable) from time to time
-Obvious sexism at my store. Been working there for 13 months and haven't even gotten cashier training yet despite asking several times and being short handed on Cashiers lately. Girls are hired as cashiers, and cashiering is a requirement to advance in customer service. Since I have been there only two guys have gotten cashier training and were moved to another department shortly after. Instead of training the guys that have been there a while they just hire more girls to to cashier, therefore reducing everyone's hours.
-Whenever managers are doing administrative work the Customer Service reps are running the front which is the majority of the time. Some are nice but some are really petty and treat teens like they are stupid. I'm not lazy but cannot stand 24/7 micromanagement by people with no real career skills. One of them in particular just stands around like he is an air traffic controller directing customers where to check out and baggers where to go bag instead of actually helping out.
-If business is slow being somewhat idle is unacceptable, unless you are a manager or customer service rep of course. "Its 110 degrees outside and you just brought all the carts inside, well go check again anyways and look in between all the cars so I can look good in front of the managers. Meanwhile I will stand and talk with my co-workers. If you come back in and start conversing with your coworker friends I will find another unnecessary task for you to do, meanwhile I will stand here and continue doing nothing." The hypocrisy is ridiculous sometimes.
-My store manager is a dbag. Tried to get one of our employees fired for wanting more than the company minimum bereavement time of when his mom unexpectedly passed because he was "lazy". Recently my best friend was back in town for a weekend and the only person that was able to take my shift that day would be able to come in 30 minutes after I was scheduled (early Monday morning when we have virtually no customers) but he would not allow that since those 30 minutes would go uncovered.
-The butt kissers and the kids with parents in higher management at other stores get evaluation scores significantly higher than everyone else that works just as hard.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure the customer service reps are actually working instead of just standing around micro managing. Publix has a reputation for hiring smarter and harder working employees than competitors so treat us accordingly.

    Pros

Good stock option and 401k. If you want to sell your soul and work to be a manager you can make good money.

    Cons

You sell your soul to the devil.

    Pros

the benfits were awesome especailly the health

    Cons

not caring at all and they would end up working you to the point of exhuastion

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

you need to do written offers when you offer full time to employees in an interview. I was told i would get full time after 3 months in the deli but it never happen after a year and half.

I worked at Publix part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Good benefits (if you ever get lucky enough to go FT)

    Cons

Publix managers (& team leaders) MICRO-MANAGE! You hired your employees with the assumption that your employees can do the job you hired them for. Once training is over, LET THEM DO THEIR JOB! You do not have to hover over your employees every few minutes to see what they are doing!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let your employees do the job your hired them for. You DO NOT have to watch them. It's not a daycare!

I have been working at Publix part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

If you prefer doing the same tasks redundantly. Good bonus, stock options, some benefits (if you're full time).

    Cons

-Hardly anyone is full time and they are trying to get rid of all the full-timers
-Management does not care about you. They come in, don't say hello, will screw your pay and hours over in order to increase their bonus check (their bonus is increased the less the employees are paid)
-Be lucky if you receive maybe a $0.25 raise every 6 months of hard work.
    -Part timers receive zero benefits
-They consider working 35 hours a week "part time". Exactly what about 9 am to 7:30 pm, then 12 pm to 11pm the next day, etc is considered part time?
-They will refuse to let you transfer to another store or the warehouse

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You were once a team member too. I'm sure you hated certain things your managers did. Stop doing that to the people that are the heartbeat of your company. Without the team members, not the managers, Publix would be nothing.

I have been working at Publix part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Good benefits if you can get on full time

    Cons

Store was only hiring for part time, couldn't get enough hours for the days asked to come in. I was put on a register with zero training.. they apologized & trained me 2 days later.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep store training consistent.

    Current Employee - Cashier

I have been working at Publix part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    - pay was here higher than that of friends who held similar positions elsewhere
    - coworkers were friendly and easy to get along with (for the most part. There's always that one or two bad apple in the bunch)
    - many different benefits are offered

    Cons

    - VERY strict on dress code. So much so that it interferes with your personal life. Constantly was nagged on for having just the slightest bit of facial hair. Even just the smallest presence of what would even appear to look like facial hair can get you in major trouble. My manager even told me one day I "needed a haircut" (my hair is CURLY. Sorry!)
    - you will always be expected to have a smile on your face, and carryout service is a must! Lord forbid you didn't ask that lady with a jar of peanut butter if she needed help out to her car!
    - moving up positions is very hard, and managers show obvious signs of favoritism
    - giving your all is still not good enough! Even if you do comply with all policies and regulations, there will always be something a manager will find to get onto you about. ALWAYS. You are expected to go out of your way no matter what the situation!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Loosen up a bit!

I have been working at Publix part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Health insurance if they allow you to get enough hours, access to 401k and stock after 3 years.

    Cons

Constant changing schedules, Oasis doesnt work a lot of the times (oasis is the computer system that allows you to check schedule from home) Managers often change your schedule the day before and are supposed to inform you but often times do not. Publix tends to be a who you know type company, you dont always get noticed for hard work. The deli is busy and often short staffed. We are never praised, only told when we did something wrong. Also you are expected to put away trucks, work the kitchen (frying chicken, food prep) make platters and wait on customers pretty much simultaneously sometimes. Also it is hard to go from part time to full time. Ive been waiting 5 years, though my boss often tells me I am the hardest working/most helpful employee in my department. They also want a completely open availability which is hard to work another job or go to school. The biggest flaw I think is the lack of education and training most managers have. Some dont even have high school diplomas and can barely spell and are in charge of an entire department. They need more training in management and better people skills. Im not saying all of them because there are some wonderful managers but its very hard to respect a manager with the reading comprehension of a 5th grader.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Praise employees once in awhile. Appreciate hard working employees. Allow some overtime and dont cut part time employee hours so they cannot receive health insurance.
