    Pros

Good pay for what you did. Always looking to improve your skills and knowledge. Strong presence of teamwork. Rewarded for completing set goals.

    Cons

Customer Service and Customer Satisfaction was highly valued. Too much emphasis on survey scores though could effect how one was able to deliver best customer service when end result was always a perfect score.

    Pros

It is possible to make great money. Great relationships between employees, sometimes it felt like a big family. Relaxed atmosphere and friendly management.

    Cons

Very much dependent on the local housing market and what management decided on pricing. Way too slow to react when things got bad. Should have impared the land immediately and been more competitive.

    Advice to Management

    Build some infill projects

    Pros

Competitive compensation, great benefits, zero dragging days. Employees are encouraged to take on as much responsibility as physically and mentally willing and able. Great sense of security. Learning opportunities are endless. Schedule flexibility. Upper management is very supportive.

    Cons

Grand expectations from leadership with little insight on how to meet them. Rationale behind metrics used for performance as a company and as an individual are not useful. Company priorities and goals seam to contradict each other. If you're passionate about customer service, meeting your own expectations is the biggest challenge in the service role.

    Advice to Management

Get out into the field, every week, no exceptions. Know first hand what challenges your employees are facing every day. Top management spending time in the field will lead to big change.

    Pros

Promotion opportunities, benefits, time-off, and work/life balance are all within or slightly above industry ranges.

    Cons

One may sense fear of retribution for voicing their opinion if it is not in the populous majority.

    Advice to Management

The company seems to have had a hard time charting a course for success beginning in 2006/2007. Only after spending many consulting dollars with consultants (namely BCG) and in large part no thanks to our senior leadership do we have a semblance of direction. However, even with the best thought out & laid out plans we should be open to regional/local debate, modification, and adaptation in order to ensure local dynamic business metrics are satisfied. In other words, one size does not fit all when it comes to a national home building operator and the company needs to recognize this sooner rather than later. Systems, business practices, methodologies, and the like need to have flexibility in each of the operating regions in order to achieve the best overall result within that region/market. At the end of the day the way the operations are structured (primarily due too and in support of the zone structure) will work, however, the level of complexity (option matrix, plan complexity, trade partner relationship deterioration, overall customer experience, just to name a few) surrounding the new operation/methodology will drive other internal KPI's (Gallup, attrition, culture, etc.) in a direction the company continues to fight hard to improve.
