Great company to work for as an intern

Software Engineer Intern (Current Employee) San Diego, CA

    Pros- Good hourly pay
    - Complete coverage for housing and relocation expenses
    - Plenty of intern events and involvement

Cons- Work experience is highly dependent on manager and team. It's possible to get stuck doing boring work all summer since it's not normally possible to transfer to a different team as an intern.

Advice to Senior ManagementHave set goals, deliverables, and dates for interns and temps before they come onboand.

    Good summer internship

Summer Intern (Former Employee) San Diego, CA

ProsThe work-culture at Qualcomm was great. The people I worked with were smart and very helpful. The location (San Diego) is amazing. The benefits for full-time employment are also good.

ConsThe work for my internship was a bunch of programming and testing tasks, with little flexibility in the goals.

Awesome HR and accommodations, but the work could have been more interesting.

Interim Engineering Intern (Former Employee) San Diego, CA

ProsGood work life balance, competitive pay, San Diego is beautiful, brilliant coworkers, housing and relocation was completely covered, R&D projects are very good, stable job outlook, HR (Campus Team) is by far the best of any company I've ever dealt with, great mentorship, executive speaker series, and they even held an intern hackathon

ConsWe didn't use agile software development, so there was very little flexibility or change as your project progressed. I had a project that was almost identical to the project that I had done the summer before at a different company. Projects are assigned based on what you have a proven track record of doing, and not what you want to do in the future. Shuttles go in loops around campus, and can take 15+ minutes to pick you up if you don't time it right. You could get banned from using the shuttles if you abuse them by taking them to an office that's closer to a mall/food court.

    Interim Engineering Intern

Interim Engineering Intern (Former Employee) Raleigh, NC

Pros- Some of the smartest folks in the semiconductor industry

    - If you want to gets hands dirty with low level work like computer organization, processors, compilers and operating systems and advanced communication protocols like LTE/4G , this is a great place to start.

    - Great benefits as interns and as full time employees.

    - Learning curve is steep, mentor/manager system per intern , guidance and training is good.

    - Company is doing well. Very positive outlook for the next couple of years.

Cons- Large organization and hence has uneven distribution of good work

    - Senior engineers tend to do most of the good work and interns complete the housekeeping stuff. Atleast it felt like that way.

    - Software division slightly takes a backseat over hardware division. Pay and bonus is higher for design engineers.

    - Too much work to kill your work-life balance

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company
