    Qualcomm employer review

Interim Engineering Intern (Current Employee) San Diego, CA

ProsIt is exciting to work for a company that is so successful at what it does. Everyone is extremely smart and there is opportunity for personal and career growth. Also, you can't beat a location like San Diego. It's one of the best places in the world to live and work in.

ConsSame as the downsides for working for any large company. It is sometimes hard to get a good idea of what your work will go to help out the strategic goals of the organization. In a smaller company a single person's work is directly impacting to the success of the company.

Advice to Senior ManagementThey could implement more efficient and frequent communication with the employees and have a way of transmitting ideas up to them.

Qualcomm is an overall good company to work for, just make sure you end up in the right group...

Intern (Former Employee) San Diego, CA

ProsThe company offers good benefits, and a good compensation. The people are nice and the working atmosphere is pleasant. Qualcomm likes to emphasize on balancing work life and hobbies. There are nice events organized for employees. I think it is a great place to work for when you have a family. Your working hours are also very flexible.

ConsBig company, can feel lost sometimes as an intern. I worked in two different groups. I hated the first one but really liked the second one. Your experience depends a LOT on your group (and therefore your manager too). I did not learn much in my first group but learned a lot in my second group in a shorter period of time.

Advice to Senior ManagementReally depends... first manager did not care about me. Second manager was awesome.

A great place for an engineering internship

Interim Engineering Intern (Former Employee) San Diego, CA

ProsThe people are great. I loved striking up conversations with just about anybody. You're surrounded by incredibly intelligent individuals, and you can learn a lot from normal conversation. I had a relatively challenging project and I was able to see the final product before I left.

Also, San Diego is amazing, I can't think of a better place to live.

ConsSometimes people in other departments didn't do their job and it help up my project. There is some bureaucracy, thought significantly less than other companies I have interned with.

Honestly, the worst part about the whole thing is having to leave.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep focusing on developing new technologies and push QCT products as aggressively as possible for the 4G era. There are some projects I'm not so sold on (Zeebo), and others that I think are great but are currently too overpriced (FLO).

It is a great place for internship

Interim Engineering Intern (Former Employee) San Diego, CA

ProsIt is fair to say that the interns are high class citizens. Regular employees are jealous about the intern activities. San Diego is a nice city.
    Decent and spacious parking lots.

    HR cares interns. It's true.

ConsCafeteria food is not of a great quality, sadly. The unlimited supply of soda will hurt the health of employees.

If you are interested in tech and love Southern California, there's no better place to work

Summer Intern (Current Employee) San Diego, CA

ProsForward looking management. Wide range of opportunities. They are pretty flexible on letting you change departments if the opportunities permit it.

Qualcomm takes great care of your work-life balance.

ConsPure tech focus. Could do with some sort of a rotation program on the likes of what Intel has. Without it, the opportunities are very limited for people with interests at the intersection of tech and business.

Advice to Senior ManagementEstablish a rotation program for engineering hires who can get in on the business side and help Qualcomm really diversify beyond just being a patent churning machine.
