    I worked at Quantum Corporation

    Pros

    Paid competitively
Quotas inline to market and expectations per headcount on par with industry
    Strength in channel

    Cons

    Product Mix instability
    Company trying to find itself
    Layoffs stretching remaining individuals
Senior Mgt can be a bit ingrown and not dynamic. Lot of excellent talent has left for other senior technology and storage roles.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Sell the company and technology as do not seem to make a profitable journey in the market place with stock price in the 1's.

    Mendota Heights: Internet Engineering Team

I have been working at Quantum Corporation full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

I worked for a great team that was highly collaborative team that got along very well. Top notch engineers.

    Cons

A former engineer took over the team in roughly August of 2013. It was a disaster from the beginning as he started out broadcasting he only wanted to have the manager title to promote his own career and his ideas. There was not one day going forward where this new "manager" actually tried to or succeeded in managing anyone on the team, complementing anyone for all the overtime or excellent work, managing the project, or handling himself in a professional manner.

Senior management cared very little about the negative treatment and unprofessionalism (both private and public) that was handed down to every developer on the team for reasons unknown to any of us. The new "manager" (which I put in quotes because he was anything but a manager) probably suffered from some pretty severe self-image issues, and took the new role as his opportunity to take out his past on us. They finally demoted the "manager" once 2 of 5 PHP developers left or had 1 foot out the door. In the end, it was clear the only skill the "manager" had was painting every one on his team in a negative light, and promoting himself.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

First, don't put people in management positions you know can't manage. Second, big mature enough to admit that you made a mistake publically and fix the bad situations you created.

I worked at Quantum Corporation full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Was a good environment to work in; nice facilities, good benefits, good salary (if you pre-dated the ADIC acquisition)

    Cons

Underlying sense of just treading water/hold on until the job market gets better - Two years of ongoing layoffs and a steady decline of sales as Tape fades and disk can never match the expectations. CEO does a variation of the same song and dance each quarter to spin underachievement into a positive. Stock price mired at the $1.20 mark despite all the organizational "synergy" supposed to be achieved by last years outsourcing/general downsizing. No real "new" products in years as there is no Design Engineering bandwidth due to downsizing/attrition.

ADIC "ego culture" increasingly prevalent as legacy Quantum employees devalued and sent packing - Trouble is, ADIC was incredibly inept at Design and Manufacturing. Sloppy documentation, tribal knowledge atmosphere. Just do it (or else)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Trouble starts at CEO and next level down (should I repeat "ego culture")

If responsible management were to occur, really need to look at how many people have the titles Director and Manager, how much they are making, and how few people now work for them. Many have no or one/two direct reports. There's the difference between profit and loss.

Also needs to re-address the sales mentality that allows customers to wait until quarter end for staggering discounts, particularly in disk

Lots of talent. Clueless Upper Management. Advocates for bureaucracy and inefficiencies

I have been working at Quantum Corporation full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Amazing talent in the lower ranks, all with a stubborn dedication to making the company work.. Top-of- the-line innovative products with huge market potential. Good work-life balance. Decent benefits.

    Cons

Upper and middle management is an inept self-promoting good-ol' boy network. Zero talent recognition. No hope for advancement. Pay below average, raises frowned upon.
Laughable (if any) product training. Refusal to adopt best practices. High level of unnecessary bureaucracy using outdated, expensive, CRM. Company is run on shareware or freeware.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

This company could do very well. The products and the people supporting them are fantastic. Your people are dedicated and enthusiastic, but many are reduced to only show up for work to get a paycheck. Think "Career Path".
Reduce bureaucracy, get rid of Oracle in exchange for a "real" CRM. Stop the bean-counter mentality and invest in the company. Provide adequate tools and adopt a Best Practices program for product implementation. Get a competent CEO and remove a top layer of upper management.

Quantum is trying to starve itself back to health

    I worked at Quantum Corporation

    Pros

Quantum is focused on work life balance.
Quantum has proactive programs focused on employee health (or they did).

    Cons

Overall, the employee population is underpaid as compared to the local market.
Truly awful place to work, as all the focus is on short term goals and no process or product improvements. I guess it is an ok place to work if you don't care...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop trying to diet yourself healthy. If you want to turn the company around, you are going to have to invest in the future.

I have been working at Quantum Corporation full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Nice atmosphere and plenty of room to move.

    Cons

Not recognized for performance and quality. Pay is all based on stats.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recognize the employee for all the intangibles they bring to the table which is NOT measured via stats i.e. spending extra time with the customer to troubleshoot and resolve with one call as opposed to getting off the phone for the stat. After all, that saves the company $ and provides customer sat. There is no incentive for the tech to operate with this philosophy. If the customer calls back five times, then the tech stats look good and they get a raise while the good tech that spends time with the customer gets nothing.

Nice Severance and Continuation pay package after the layoff! (If getting laid off is a good thing..)

    Cons

    Monotonous, boring work.
    Middle management is incompetent.
