Business drives the culture. Should be the other way around.

Clinical Trials (Former Employee) Collegeville, PA

ProsSalary is competitive. Benefits are in line with other companies. Great to have on your resume. They provide an annual blood screening for all employess and your health impacts your insurance premium rates positively if you stay healthy. No charge for any tests that go through Quest ordered by your doctor.

ConsI can only comment on the Clinical Trials Divsion.
    1. There is a lack of true leadership that is willing to promote change in order to advance the company. People are afraid to speak up.
    2. Education to learn your job and excel is non-existent.
    3. There is a thick line drawn between management and employees. Little to no "real" communication. More like a dictatorship with imput from employees mostly ignored.
    4. Annual reviews are identical from year to year. It's as if they are done to meet HR requirements, however, have no real impact on an employees salary or advancement.
    5. Moving out of a position in Clinical Trials could be difficult. Management stopped several people from transferring to other departments.

Advice to Senior ManagementBottom line numbers are important, but you need to care about how you get to those numbers. Can you imagine where the company would be if you truly understood how middle management treats their employees? Employees speak the truth. Management sugar coats. Listen to your employee survey!

Phelbotomist (Current Employee) White Plains, NY

ProsI've gotten my experience by working close with one of the techs who's has no problems answering any question I might have .........even on her days off!!!,I couldn't ask for anything better than that.

Consthe lack of training I've gotten, they're very fast at letting you know when you do something wrong. also ,the abuse I've gotten from the people I work with.

Advice to Senior Managementeither give me the training I need ,or I know i'll be let go by December.

    Disgusting

Clinical Laboratory Scientist (Current Employee) San Juan Capistrano, CA

    ProsAbove Industry vacation time
Abundance of overtime if you want it
Gang type structure, if you are one of them you are ok no matter what kind of mistake you make.

    ConsHostile work environment
    Low class employees
    Unethical employees
Many people have little or no integrity
    Rule by sabotage and retaliation
    Very negative company culture
A lot of resistance to changes
You will be alienated and ousted if you have a different religious value then those surround you.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe new corporate management is in the right direction. I just hope it trickle down to the bottom level faster. A lot of leads and supervisors like the way it was, there for changes will be difficult to almost impossible.

LabCorp is an awful company to work for, but Quest Diagnostics puts them to shame!

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsStay out of Quest Diagnostics, there are no pros.

ConsConvinced that this is a liberal run company with socialistic intents. Prepare to resist using the restroom and getting hungry. Stay at your desk at all times, never get thirsty. Restrain yourself from any outside world contact, as anyone needing to contact you in an emergency, such as your child's school is strictly forbidden. Only supervisors are allowed to fart around and speak with people and leave for hours on end for an emergency. Prepare for swollen and aching muscles, headaches, and massive burnout! If you are still interested in working here, knock yourself out!

Advice to Senior ManagementHad a wonderful manager, but senior management ran the show. Select supervisors, not all were unreasonable and needed to be weeded out to be replaced by someone that knew how to supervise and not babysit. Stop outsourcing IT! You actually need qualified people and not monkeys to replace us!

Poster Child for the Peter Principle

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Norristown, PA

ProsGreat work/life balance and generous time off allotment

ConsThe Peter Principle at work! Management is terrible at just about every level of the organization. Not only are they promoting people who are ill-suited to their new role, these managers bring along their favorites who aren't much better.
The outlook is not good until they straighten management out and replace "old thinkers" with more agile and forward-looking thinkers.

Advice to Senior ManagementRe-think some of the people who were recently placed in higher management roles and replace them where needed with more innovative thinkers.
    Invest in modern systems.

Q.D. will use you, abuse you, and discard you.

    Phlebotomist (Current Employee)

    ProsGood benefits, pay was decent.

ConsPhlebotomist a are expected to do the workload of 2-3 people and are now micromanaged, thanks to new procedures. Supervisors are of no help, and are unprofessional and unequipped to their job. Upper management is is like the wizard of Oz- a faceless entity that barks out orders behind a curtain. The company has time and money for propaganda and sales gimmicks like the "quiggles" device they spent tons of money on, yet they are laying people off left and right. If you want to be worked to death, to where your so burned out you can't remember your own name, then work for Quest Diagnostics. They'll finally let you rest when they lay you off after giving you 3 days notice.

Advice to Senior ManagementRespect your frontline workers. And give them the resources such as qualified, helpful supervisors, so they can do their job.

    Ineffective management and rampant politics....

Manager (Former Employee) Los Angeles, CA

ProsCombination of TOP - sick and vacation time is a huge plus. Decent programs to support healthy lifestyles. There are quite a number of great hardworking people here. The people are what drew me to stick around for so long...

ConsManagement cutting staff beyond the bare bones. I get that it's good to cut out the fat and non productive employees but the RIFs are letting go of good people and the non-value added employees are still around. The water cooler talk is that the new CEO is priming the company to be sold and old actions to date support this notion.

Many competent, qualified, and loyal employees have either left or been left go via a RIF. Many of the middle management I have worked with are pretty much incompetent and have no idea of how to do their job or manage the people reporting to them. Most of the time, they are looking out for themselves and only got to their positions based on who they knew. That's probably the saddest part of all this...The work bees (L7) remaining are being led by people who CAN'T lead...

The others mgmt folks just seem to go with the flow and stay quite. They either have little weight to make a positive change, stand up for the PRINCIPLE, or just no spines to do so. If you come across a great manager, consider them a gem...There is very few left willing to put up with the company or the environment.

The Senior and executive leadership only look at the numbers. I don't believe they have a good sense of the business impact caused by these drastic cuts. The outlook looks to be very poor for the next 18-24 months for both employees and QDX customers.

Lastly, employees are treated fairly poorly or downright unjust where it raises legal questions. Morale is super low...and with it, so is the productivity and collaboration across the business and I.T. teams.

Advice to Senior ManagementLook closely and get rid of your dead weight (those who talk the talk but can't walk the walk...). Thy are hiding behind their management titles. Figure out how the organization each group should work together and share the vision and come up with a realistic game plan. Simplify the SOPS and reduce the overhead. Stop trying to outsource! QDX is bleeding out all the lab knowledge with RIFF'ing the wrong people. Instead focus on the people and improve morale.
