Great Culture

Named Account Manager (Current Employee)
Aliso Viejo, CA

I have been working at Quest Software full-time for more than 10 years

ProsGreat company culture and hope it doesn't change

ConsQuest needs to evolve the solutions in to cloud. Technology is a bit dated now.

Great place to set up shop

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Aliso Viejo, CA

I have been working at Quest Software

ProsPretty relaxing place to work.
All-around competent people.
Doesn't skimp on technologies and tools to get the job done.
Fresh fruit.
Very nice office space, plenty of lounge areas.

ConsSome of the long-timers are downers and have a certain fear of management in them that prevents them from innovating. Or perhaps they just sucked in the first place and are still around for some reason...

I never understand why all the incoming fruit is never ripe when they come in yet it'll be all gone by Tuesday. I think people are just stock-piling fruit for when they get ripe the following week. Dang you hoarders!

Advice to Senior ManagementCan there be more performance based incentives for non-sales people?

Stressful at times, but you work with some of the best people in the industry

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Aliso Viejo, CA

I worked at Quest Software

ProsThe people makes a company, and at Quest there are some very smart people that are not only good at what they do, but compassionate, fun, and just overall good people. And this isn't just the grunts, there are some really good people in management as well

ConsThe company is made of a hodge podge of acquired companies, trying to integrate all the different acquisitions is impossibly difficult, especially with each acquisition comes management changes and the cultures of each acquired company is different. In the end there's more diverging directions due to each business unit having their own agendas.

Advice to Senior ManagementCan't say there's anything wrong with management even though I don't work there anymore. Any problem Quest faces has far more to do with integration of the business units. The sooner the leaders of each unit realize that there's more to gain for collaboration the better off the company will be.

A good place to work!

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
New York, NY

I have been working at Quest Software

ProsManagement team is in tune with th market and is willing to listen to employees. Good products. Potential for great compensation provided you get in through the right channels. Handled the 2009 downturn with tact and class although management had to make some tough decisions.

ConsSomewhat difficult to advance your career due to recent hiring freezes. Communication at the middle management level could be better. Reportedly, compensation is greatly dependent on how you get in and who you know. Constant, unsubstantiated rumors of mergers and takeovers. Some really questionable acquisitions over the last couple of years, but hey, we all make mistakes!

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep building on the current corporate culture, but work with middle management to improve communication, even when unpleasant events need to be communicated. Don't sell the company to CA!! :-)

Consistent growth is key...

Sales Representative (Current Employee)
Chicago, IL

I have been working at Quest Software

ProsQuest Software is a dominant company compared to its competitors. With 3 main areas of focus, competition is everywhere. However Quest has continued to acquire companies that round out our product offerings. This allows employees more growth opportunities in terms of product development, marketing, sales, and senior management. Quest has adapted the west coast laid back mentatlity to allow employees a relaxed, yet competitive, atmosphere. Quest has a very strong senior leadership team that has helped the company weather the good times and the bad. Even in an economy on the brink of a recession, Quest is continuing to prosper and grow.

ConsFor some of the lower level employees, opportunities may seem limited due to the internal political heirarchy. For example, some members of the sales organization are chomping at the bit to move up the chain of command, but this obviously comes at a price of doing your time and proving that you can achieve measurable results. While being a global organiztion has its upsides, some of the spread out mentality is difficult when trying to communicate new marketing messages, sales programs, or sponsored events that Quest may be taking part in. That and a few egos of upper levels can stiffle some creativity at times.

Advice to Senior ManagementContinue to acquire small companies with great technology and properly integrate them into the Quest portfolio at a steady pace.
