Mortgage banker job was insane. Like working for greedy managers with super expensive coke addictions.

    I worked at Quicken Loans

    Pros

None really. You get to meet a lot of young people that are easy to relate to and chill

    Cons

Wow where to begin. The way this company hires and treats its new mortgage bankers is criminal.
The hours are long. 60-80 hours.
Management is brainwashed and only cares about $ and instant results.

The company really only hires college aged kids with minimal experience.
They then set super high expectations for you and your minimal experience.
The training here is not very good. Yes the training for passing SAFE is good, and so is Blueprint training, but those two aspects are nothing like the mortgage banking position.

One of my uncles has 25 years fortune 300+ ceo experience. He was appalled at this firms style for new employees.

Managements view seems to be wow it was very hard for me, so there's no reason newer employees shouldn't be run through the grinder just as hard.

That's not how a company evolves and grows. It evolves by adapting and making it easier for new employees. Not 1 time in training were we encouraged to shadow the actual position. If I was there in mgt and knew of the 65%-75% 1st year TO ratio, I'd be encouraging that just a little.

Blueprint mgt needs to wake up and realize BP is about 25X easier than the real job. They seem to think it prepares you very well for the position when this firms TO ratios indicate otherwise.

Sure you can brag about your JD award that is bought buy wealth or your standing in market share, but you're working your employees 2x longer than those in the industry...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Integrate more actual mortgage banking training into your brand new employees days that occurs for a few hours each week. Transfers are great and all but you insert the You are garbage scene from Dicaprios initial trading days in the Wolf of Wallstreet a bit too much.
Enlightenment was grand but I mean you need to be letting all new employees train with mentors a few hours a week while in blueprint.
I got a 4.0 in college and had prior sales experience, and I lasted only 8.5 months.
This current scheme truly is a rat race.
    Good luck.

Stop treating people who can't excel here like garbage. It's a demanding position and there's no reason to act like that other than the fact that you're super greedy and brainwashed. Honestly after being let go, my initial manager was nice but the firing vp manager acted holier than thou.

Your employees work their life's away, treat them with respect when letting them go. I try to be nice to people, but it makes me glad I was born into the upper class, and you're still working those 9-9s.

    Pros

money. if you love money and don't care about ethical practice, a life outside of work, or your health you will do well here. Fun office culture at times, so it may be better for new grads because you certainly don't feel like it's an "adult job". If you end up making it long enough you can make a ton of money

    Cons

hours, stress, lacking in ethical practice as in "team plans" do not necessarily always include the truth from the start, no work-life balance

    Pros

The pay was ok if you like to work your whole life without washing clothes or seeing your family or sleeping. benefits were great also.

    Cons

It was by far the worst company I have ever worked for. I worked an average of 70 hours a week and my manager was the meanest most disorganized person I have ever met who was actually allowed to lead people. She had no leadership skills constantly yelled at us in front of other employees played our bad calls in front of other employees and cursed like a sailor. I would not advise anyone to work for this company the stress is not worth it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire managers who have experience leading people or put each new manager through sensitivity training as some of her comments even boarder on racist.

    Pros

you can make good money if you work hard.

    Cons

Your a robot and puppet for quicken. They dont give half a stink about you, no matter how hard you work and how well you do. 1 strike and your out. They smile to your face, and the next second youll your leaders whispering and being secretive. everybody is dan gilberts slave. perfect way to describe them is "they tell you what you want to here" I got terminated because of a family issue i had to take days off. Prior to that i was the highest producing ccs on the floor. thats what kind of company they are

    Cons

    Pros

They give you a lot of perks and bonuses.

    Cons

They work you to the bone!! If you don't have a life or a family or any interests outside of work, this might be the place for you to die in happily. If you're a normal well rounded person, this lifestyle will be a nightmare for you. There's no such thing as time off with this company, not even when you're sick with the flu. I was sick with the flu and had to be in the office, i vomited at work so I was sent home. I was so weak that while walking down the stairs, i fell down two flights of stairs and was sent to the emergency room. I was also harassed by my supervisor and the company did nothing about it.

I worked at Quicken Loans full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

QL offers tremendous financial opportunities to those willing and able to do the work. Commissions can be huge, bankers often earning hundreds of thousands of dollars per year. They do have a very fast-paced, energetic workplace, and the offices are very "google-like" crazy colors, free snacks, etc.

    Cons

No work life balance at all. Period. None.
Shortly after starting, we were informed that we were to stay three hours after what the recruiter had told us.12-14 hour days became the norm, as did working 6-7 days a week. It was basically demanded that a cell phone be provided to clients, so my phone rang 7 days a week, around the clock (at church, family dinners, events, etc). Anyone who was "behind pace" was "encouraged" (demanded) to stay late, and work weekends, no matter what sacrifices this entailed. We missed our first anniversary trip to mexico which had already been bought and paid for, because they threatened to fire me.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I can't imagine what is the possible reason for Quicken Loans not valuing families, and work life balance. I have no problem with working hard, 45-50 hours a week is to be expected, but 70-80 is insane. Everyone needs a break, and no one needs to be at work that much. You are burning out so many talented, capable people.

    Pros

Great training for new bankers getting into the business. My advise is to get the training stick it out for 6 months and move to a company that will treat you like a human.

    Cons

Management requires you to work long hours, makes you feel that if you do not work overtime you will be fired or demoted.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop worrying about the revenue and the J.D. Power and Associates awards and listen to the employees.
