I have been working at Quicken Loans full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

You can make good money when you produce. The culture is very high level. The technology is phenomenal. Not a company where you will be complaining about people not doing their job. If you are single, and care only about making money or advancing your career, great opportunity to be financially successful and grow. Lot of opportunity to be promoted and advance if you are willing to sacrifice your personal life.

    Cons

You will work. And then you will stay late. And then you will be expected to work the weekend. The days are long, and there is no down time. You are there to work, and prospect as many clients as they can shove down your throat. They want to gain market share, and don't care about turnover. It's a short career for most that are hired. Not a role you want if you care about family and spending time with them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You should really focus on the overall well being of your people. You clearly don't care about turnover, and the focus is on training the newest bankers to be as productive as possible in the shortest amount of time. it's clearly not on retaining the dedicated bankers, or finding ways to keep them happy. You focus on quantity not quality of prospective leads, which doesn't bother you on paper because the culture drives results. However, the mindset of bankers is not a priority, while it clearly should be. If anyone tries to speak out, it's viewed as complaining and not being dedicated enough. This can't be summarized on paper for a 2 minute huddle though. When directors are stepping down monthly, clearly there is a push from the top down that is squeezing every last drop out of those willing to give all they have.

    Pros

You get the opportunity to work with a lot of intelligent people on interesting projects.

    Cons

There are a band of "in" people. It's extremely hard to introduce new ideas into the culture, unless those ideas come from the "it" people. A mentality of "if we didn't think of it first, it's a bad idea".

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be open to ideas from different companies and industries.

    Pros

Good place to start, learn and make money.
    Company has good benefits.
    Pay can be exceptional.
Little room to move to other parts of the company.
Constant worrying about pay changes and job security.

    Cons

    Constantly micromanaged.
    No work/life balance.
Almost cult like following in company.
Expected to work over-time regardless of performance.
If you perform well at mortgage banking they will make it impossible for you to leave the position.
Employees outside of banking are only able to enjoy the perks.
Want their employees to work off a script.
Working out of Detroit can be restrictive, despite what company says.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Limit working hours.
    Pay bankers actual hourly over-time.
    Less micromanagement.

    - Options for moving up through the company
    - Detroit is getting much nicer

    Cons

    - ISMs feel a bit much like brainwashing
    - Many employees work LONG hours
    - The Quicken culture is expected to be bought into
    - If you don't get along with a few team members, you will get pushed out
    - Inconsistent messages can be sent out

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you want to build a connection with your employees, then you should do it when they're working, not in orientations and video updates.

I worked at Quicken Loans full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great culture, friendly team members fun looking office atmosphere. The company location is in the heart of downtown so there is always something to do when you get off work. The company does a great job with making sure team members engage with community service activities and support local businesses. Lots of growth potential if you know the right people.

    Cons

No concrete goals and objectives. It is difficult to know how your performance is because their aren't any measurements. Leadership appears to be cliquish and will hang out drinking with team members.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Goals and objectives need to be laid out so that each Team understands what they should be focused on and each team member is clear of what they will be held accountable for. There needs to be a clear attendance and career progression process so that it does not look like favoritism when team members are promoted. Goals and accountability should be clear and consistent across the board.

    I worked at Quicken Loans

    Pros

The best reasons to work here is the downtown Detroit vibe and environment your in while working. The office environment is nice with bright colors and free snake machines although it's only popcorn.

    Cons

The challenges of working here is they treat employees like slaves. The work life balance is horrible. They expect you to devote your life to them. They even discourage lunch breaks. They look down on you if you took a lunch break and expect you to be working during those times.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

My advice to management is to treat the lower wage employees with more respect and spread the wealth.

I worked at Quicken Loans full-time

    Pros

Best part about Quicken, was the training and leadership that is provided as well as the people who you work along side. DMB and RVP all were extremely knowledgeable about the industry and how to help you build your skills to succeed. Office environment is unmatched, and provides for a very fun experience.

    Cons

Long hours. I had no problem working long days during the week, as it is needed to be successful and gain knowledge during the learning curve, however after a 75 hour week, they excepted you to commit to work the weekends also. Need to have a better work/life balance in order to recharge and reenergize for the weeks and months ahead.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Great leadership and training, very knowable. Work/Life balance needs to be worked on.

I have been working at Quicken Loans full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great culture. Fun office environments. I feel like the pay is fair.

    Cons

I dont think they value their employees very much. Basically forced to work long hours and not flexible with time off. I feel micro-managed. I feel the organization is very unorganized. People are hired and put to work with very limited knowledge which causes big problems and more work for others. I was basically self taught and learned on the job, which made my "getting up to speed" very slow.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

As a client care specialist, I could give much much better service with more managable pipelines. I do not wish to work 50 hours a week and I would like more flexibility for time off and such. More training.
