I worked at REI Systems as a contractor

    Pros

The community was awesome. You are working long hours with people and really getting to know them. Most people are really nice, but some times there are blow ups due to the stress. The work was really interesting and challenging though.

    Cons

They work you round the clock. My phone never stopped ringing. I would be at work till 2am in the morning then have a manager call me at 10am asking me why I am not at work. They have completely unrealistic expectations of their employees in terms of hours. I couldn't even imagine being a salary employee there.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bump up the pay and bump down the hours.

I worked at REI Systems full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Some people are good to work with. If u stay a long time and if they like you the benefits are good. Office place is good. Gives 40 hours yearly for professional development. Ping pong tables and bagel fridays

    Cons

Long working hours, harsh deadlines, dependent on federal contracts(End of contract means end of the department and so the job). Limited options to grow. Base salary is very low compared to industry standard in the area. Need to become a favorite of some manager to grow else will be pushed around. Good work is done in only in one or two teams. Other teams are forced to use the company's version of tools which leads to very limited technological growth for most employees. Repetitive work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat employees better. Should start hiring american managers to improve work culture. Stop attrition.

    Pros

Fun activities from ping pong championships, to biking clubs, toastmasters and PMI meetings, robot group, and the company gives back by honoring charities embraced by employees. Such a variety. Lots of brown bags and internal training too.

    Cons

Struggle with being responsive internally. Really depends on your project and supervisor if work is chaotic or not. Lots of decisions are made based on relationships and not solving the real issue.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be personable. Reach out to people. Answer e-mails...be the manager that you want your managers to be.

I have been working at REI Systems full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    1. I respect REI's CEO. He is gem of a person. If you have any concern, you can directly talk to him.
    2. They revised benefits in 2014, as they were loosing so many employees, so they decided to do something about it.

    Cons

    1. Favoritism
    2. Some Top level Managers are not supposed to be managers. They lack communication skills, basically not fit to be managers.
    3. Long Work Hours (Think 10+ hours every day).
    4. Below Average Compensation.
    5. Terrible management. If you like micro-management, this is the place for you.
    6. Nothing would get done with HR Department.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look at your Managers. Because of few rotten tomatoes, whole company looks bad.

I have been working at REI Systems full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

REI is a great place for people with entry/mid level experience where you get to learn a lot about the standard industry business practices. Working on variety of projects allow you to become flexible and diverse.

    Cons

Majority of the Project Managers/Portfolio Managers are horrible to work with. Most don't have respect for their team members and treat them as their "own" employees. A lot of internal politics is in place. Also, the PTO is very low with no sick leave or paid FMLA leave. Work hours are long, mostly 40+ hours every week. Managers take their team members for granted and think they are available to work late nights and on weekends. The owners also have a very Indian mind set for operating a company in the US.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Train yourself and your managers better to treat their team members with respect and dignity. Revise your benefit package. If your attitude towards long working hours don't change, you will loose a lot of good workers.
