Fantastic environment, great training and excellent staff

    Customer Manager (Current Employee)
    Liverpool, England (UK)

ProsLaid back working environment, great training and development opportunities, easy to get your opinions heard regardless of your position.

ConsSometimes hard to know who's in charge, not the best pay. Also quite stringent targets if your telephony based.

Advice to Senior ManagementMore motivation for staff.

Great people / atmosphere, not very agile business

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Liverpool, England (UK)

ProsI like the people, and they really do seem to value their employees - staff turnover is low, lots of inward recruiting. Good offices (although some better than others), nice location (near the train station). Total compensation is high (pay, bonus, benefits etc)

ConsConstant threat of redundancies, little communication from upper management. Business appears to move slowly and extremely cautiously.

Advice to Senior ManagementSpeed up! For instance, this is 2014. There definitely shouldn't be modems in an office.
Communicate more. An entire department just got outsourced? Not even a notice on the intranet....

ProsGreat people, everydays a bit different, there is a constant push for improvements and ability to do your best .

ConsHigh turn over of staff due to wages being low within the market at level 5/6

Advice to Senior ManagementPeople count and def keep investing in them.

Nice company but a bit sluggish

    Business Partner (Current Employee)
    London, England (UK)

ProsA friendly environment, with a great deal of potential - expecting Steven Hester to seriously shake this sleepy 300 company up

ConsComplicated, matrix management structure, means too many layers, and too much process.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop thinking like a 300 year old company - the U.K market is seriously tough and RSA needs to be fighting fit.

I can't imagine a better place to work

    Analyst (Current Employee)
    Liverpool, England (UK)

ProsIt's family friendly, and flexible. There are lots of opportunities for progression and to try new things. There's also chances to travel if it's what you want to do. Location wise it's ideal for anyone who lives in the Liverpool area and the social side is great too!

ConsThe building is a bit past it's use by date! There's quite a bit of office politics but where isn't there? Strategically things seem quite unclear and it feels like they're making it up as they go along!

Advice to Senior ManagementSee things through! And when you don't explain why! Sort out the infrastructure as there are too many systems!

Been there 15 years and overall a very good, ethical employer

    Commercial Underwriter (Current Employee)

ProsNot the most generous payers but a good overall package including pension scheme and flexible benefits once you've been there over a year

ConsConstant threat of redundancy and not enough staff to do the job we have to do in many departments

Advice to Senior ManagementGive staff more opportunity to have their say and increase holidays the longer you've been there - plus increase the 25 year service award and the travelling evening meal allowances- they've not increased for years!!!

Use to be a great place to work

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsFlexibility of working patterns is generally accepted and helps working parents.
Loss of high level management which were deemed by top level as excellent - but in reality only made terrible decisions making the day to day life helping the customer extra difficult.
A lot of the people day to day are friendly and keep the company moving - most want to do a great job despite resource challenges they are all faced with.

ConsQuantity vs Quality - quantity is always favoured at the risk of doing a good job.
No job security and there is one business change after another - key teams made redundant making everyones job that little bit harder with seemingly no thought given behind top level decisions that are made.
No real investment in systems or hardware leaving us very short in innovative ideas - very behind the times and still antiquated in its approach.
Very focused on winning new business but is very often making promises that cannot be kept to, focus is gone once business is won and its onto the next one.
Communication is poor across the whole company with each business area always fighting to prove their worth (and skew figures often) because job security is so poor.

Advice to Senior ManagementTo come work in the actual centres and understand the real challenges faced and how the front line directly impact the customer. Half day (rare) visits which are very scripted about who management see and sit with does not reflect the true story, and is hardly beneficial. Management should come in and decide who they sit with (not be herded towards a set person). Spend a few days / a week at a time to understand the real job before the high level decisions are then made which affect the people on the front line without knowing how difficult it makes the job already.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company
