I worked at RSA Security full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Great, nice, smart people to work with. Has feeling of operating mostly separate from EMC mothership.
Cons – Too much politics in management. Frequent management turnover, leads to frequent strategy changes.
Advice to Senior Management – Stop churning through management so frequently and develop a strategy at a higher higher for products/portfolio and stick with it.

I have been working at RSA Security full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – - Challenging work. Fast paced release cycles.
- Sharp and hardworking team-members
- Good work culture. No office politics.
- Good learning resources like internal libraries, learning portals and lectures and classes on the site.
- Agile methodology and daily scrums.
- Opportunity to innovate, design and implement new tools, features and products.
- Great support for filing patents. (help in fleshing out original ideas to the point that it can be patented)
Cons – - Old RTP facility bursting at the seams
- Average compensation and average benefits
- 'Unflexible' hours, work from home allowed not encouraged.
- Sometimes the management can disconnect itself with your career development goals.
- Most of the QE work is outsourced to another country and it can be frustrating to work.
- Software Developers can be asked to work as Customer Engineers (on biweekly rotation or such) and although helpful for a while, can become dull after a while.

I worked at RSA Security
Pros – I felt that management was very dynamic, not stuck in their own old ways. They were innovative and looking to the future. They were interested in what their emloyees wanted from their careers and to getting them into new areas as well.
Cons – Sometimes management jumped a little too quickly into new innovations that were not "winners". This caused a lot of shifting around. Our group however was pretty insular, so my experience may have been unique. The company is very siloed and you don't have much insight into the rest of the groups without doing your own networking.
Advice to Senior Management – Try to create a sense of company. You need to bring the groups together maybe by having townhalls regularly.

I worked at RSA Security
Pros – The talent pool working at RSA is of good overall quality. Opportunities for professional development abound. The budget for degree programs and technical courses was very helpful. In addition, some technical courses are offered on-site. A decent cafeteria and an on-site gym further reflect the company's focus on balanced living. In general, the company still feels "small" enough that one can have candid discussions with decision makers (if one seeks them out) to better understand the company as a whole.
Cons – Some processes are slow and inter-departmental communication is especially not smooth. Internal transfers could be messy given the integration of HR with EMC. Middle management structure is frequently in flux, so some groups may be disorganized for periods of time.
Advice to Senior Management – RSA gets many things right. There may be room for improvement when ensuring that all levels of management are aware of the company's goals and that managers are looking out for their teams' long-term success. Making sure that existing employees can safely pursue a career path within the company can make it that much better.

I have been working at RSA Security
Pros – Opportunity to make a difference. Security is hot with strong products in multiple product categories. Strong leadership team with mix of RSA executives and infusion of new talent from EMC. RSA has a small company feel with the benefits of being part of a larger entity (EMC).
Cons – Lack of resources to do all of the work required and management doesn't want to make the call on what cannot get done. Little to no funding for training or travel given the current economic climate. Work/life balance varies greatly from group to group. Constant re-organizations which causes too much internal/inward focus vs. customer focus. Too many meetings without agendas or clear action items coming out of the meeting.
Advice to Senior Management – Determine real source of RSA competitive advantage and align the company strategy accordingly.
