    Pros

    Free soda and good environment

    Cons

Teams behave independently and can sometimes not work toward the same goal, compensation is average.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pros

Great place to work, dress like you would like, laid back, you learn a lot!

    Cons

Micro management, products are not compatible with the market.
    Pay is low.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fire the bad managers who don't know what they are doing and get more developers to build more products.

I have been working at Rackspace full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Amazing culture. Everyone is friendly and there to help. Excellent managers, lots of drive.

    Cons

No real company direction. Below standard wages and benefits. The 401k has a THREE YEAR VEST on the match.
Company is a San Antonio company in a Silicon Valley market - and acts like it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Decide who your customers are, and nail it for them. Rackspace's offerings tend to be a little bit for everyone.

I worked at Rackspace full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Fantastic people and culture. Great, growing industry and many opportunities to learn, advance and grow your career as the company continues to grow.

    Cons

As a fast growing company in a fast growing industry, the company has suffered from corporate ADD in terms of identity, focus and direction causing a great deal of self-inflicted, non-necessary change. The changes are extremely tiring and sap a ton of energy from the Rackers through organizational shifts, customer re-balancing, learning the "flavor of the day/week/month/quarter". Additionally, Rackspace is now fully engaged in the 90-day earnings reports/analyst sentiments, which results in rash decision making, not enough time allowed for investments to pay off, etc. Very poor intra-organizational cooperation to get things done.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pick a direction/strategy, stick to your guns and execute the plan.

I have been working at Rackspace full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The people hired at Rackspace are wonderful to work with.
    Benefits are great
Environment is awesome-- HQ offers a full-service Rec center with fitness classes and personal training sessions, Airrosti, etc.
Lots of career opportunities if you can find them and have the time to dedicate to shadowing outside of your day to day job.

    Cons

Working in support you don't get much time to appreciate all of the fun activities and games that are offered or time to shadow other teams
    Overworked due to headcount
    Very demanding and draining work
    Little recognition
Sit at a desk for 8+ hours

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Since Fanatical Support is what our business is all about, it would be nice to see more effort and value put into our support Rackers.

I have been working at Rackspace full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Ability to learn and grow in a fun environment. Managers care and are willing to work with you on schedules and projects.

    Cons

It can be frustrating at times due to much disorganization. Different departments are sometimes working on similar projects leading to inefficiency. Training is provided to a certain level, but there is no structured training for advanced topics.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If Rackspace is going to differentiate itself from competitors based on support, then the support floor needs to be more valued instead of being treated like "people who barely made it through community college" as I've heard people say.

Still a great place to work, the few imperfections make it even better.

I have been working at Rackspace full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great mix of motivated, creative people all wanting to build greatness. Relaxed culture but that doesn't imply lazy or unfocused. Constant drive to evolve, a winners attitude and enough passion to float a ship. Senior leaders are doing all the right things strategically and all other levels of leadership pulling in the same direction. Constantly growing in size and visibly "growing up" into a fun corporate.

    Cons

Suffered from misaligned strategy in the past, some catching up to do. Suffering from teenage "coming of age issues", should pass in a few years with strong parenting (leadership). A lot of employee movement within the business, as well as into and out of the company. Great for job seekers but the constant churn is can be concerning.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to stay in touch with all levels of the business, ignore the small pain points and continue to chase the big ones.

I have been working at Rackspace full-time

    Pros

The people are fantastic. Real human beings. Learning per moment is the highest pretty much anywhere, including start-ups. It's a great place to work if you love change.

    Cons

The two cons are A) the place has an excessively high rate of change. If you eat change for lunch, this place is for you. However, B) the culture of individual heroics means that "Rackers" don't tend to get rewarded for preventing problems, developing essential processes, or being operationally excellent except in pockets. As a result, there's a lot of "dive & save" kinds of activities, far more than necessary.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You have some amazing unsung heroes, Rackers who are behind the scenes making the company great. Find them. Reward them. Figure out how to keep them.
