  1. Good job, not for me

I worked at Radiant Systems full-time

    Pros

The working environment was casual and provided a lot of flexibility to take time off and work from home as needed. The facilities were also really nice and they had soda machines on every floor.

    Cons

I found it hard to network and move to another part of the company that best fit my personality type. I temped at Radiant while I was in college and took a full time position after graduating, and was on a team of primarily developers. I'm more of a people person, and found it hard to move up within the team, and ultimately took a position elsewhere.

    Advice to Management

Facilitate connections between departments to help employee cohesion, and provide more assistance for employees who would want to transition to another part of the business.

    Pros

Great compensation. Great teamwork. Awesome building

    Cons

As the company grew and they started hiring these high level people that had come from other companies that they had messed up. They came in and wanted to change a well working machine.

    Advice to Management

Glad they sold to a company that can take the great products to the next level

    Pros

Prompt with pay, easy to communicate with via e-mail

    Cons

Recruiters do not speak English very well, rates are not as competitive as other companies.

    Advice to Management

Teach your recruiters to speak better English or hire people in the US and not India.

    Pros

Money is reasonably good but not great. Vacation is better than average. Casual work environment.

    Cons

Career advancement is tough. It's who you know not how good you are that will get you a promotion. Accomplishments are rarely acknowledged.

    Pros

Radiant is a large company with a small company mentality. Not a lot of structure for individual jobs - you'll love it if you like freedom to make improvements where you see fit, you'll hate it if you need a lot of structure and direction.

    Cons

Very hard to promote within this company. Leadership is a very tight knit group, and like many other companies, it's who you know more than what you do that gets you promoted.

    Advice to Management

Continuously seek out opportunities to make Radiant the best place to work - not just strive to be on par with other companies.

    Pros

Time off is good, not tons of overtime is required. Direct management is willing to be flexible with work schedule. Some working from home is allowed.

    Cons

Salary is low after working there for many years, but that may be common for other places as well too.

    Advice to Management

Keep your employees up to market on their salaries, even if they have been with the company for years. Deadlines should have developer input before being set.
