    good for part time

    Retail Store Manager (Former Employee)
    El Centro, CA

Prosgood place to learn about all kinds of technologies. good for part time. good benefits.

Consnot in good shape right now. no freedom to make decisions and a difference in the company even when they need it.

Advice to Senior Managementgive people a chance to make decisions. if you stop micromanaging you will do better.

    How are they still around

    Sale Associate (Former Employee)

Pros-They had great training for practically anybody new to the tech/electronics world.
    -My second manager was great.

    Cons- Overpriced product
    - WAAAAAY too many add-on sales pitches: cell phone upgrades, adding service plans, batteries... it makes the customer feel attacked.
    - Lost too many good employees because lack of pay/raises/promotions/recognition
    - Too much pressure from management
Management was waaaaay unstable, lots of store and regional manager overturn

Advice to Senior ManagementIf product pricing is as high as it is and that money is going back into the stores, managers and/or Sales Associates then it's safe to assume that it's going to top brass. Your top brass obviously isn't earning that money. My advise? Reduce product prices, give yearly merit based raises to Sales Associates, take a huge pay cut and learn to live on less.

They dont care about you as a person, they dont listen to good judgement

    Retail Store Manager (Current Employee)

ProsGood hours, they offer manager bonuses, they give a very decent employee discount and have company carrier employee lines that save you money!

ConsThey pay cheap, they expect steak on a dollar menu budget, they dont listen to a thing you have to say, they micro manage EVERYTHING, they want you to work without caring if you have a home life (most big companies now adays) and they call you all times of day and night and expect you to answer/be there. They blame inventory losses on you as a store manger yet dont carry cameras in each store so like mine I cant control or see whats going on when im not there. The training is very little and all on a computer... most people dont learn this way. They dont keep items in the store the customers want and most of our electronics are outdated. They dont seem to care about the classic stores only the brand statement/concept stores get attention and good variations of products in shipments. There isnt much positive about this company. Thats why theyre in the position theyre in and all theyre employees are jumping ship so to speak.

Throw the baby out with the wash

Regional Human Resources Manager (Former Employee)
    Fort Worth, TX

ProsThe corporate physical environment was very pleasant being by a river and in downtown district; Fort Worth a nice city.
The benefits prior to 2009 were very nice.

ConsNot employee friendly. Cut and slash for the stock holders, was the primary force; very sad for the employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementYour subordinates make or break you; treat them well!

    No Direction

    Sales Associate (Former Employee)
    Helena, MT

ProsGreat Training in sales and support staff

ConsChanging direction every 3 months and very confusing on what you need to do for company and pay is being lowered all the time so less quality of people will be working that work for cheap!!!

Advice to Senior ManagementBe more like Tandy's direction and making customer right not company being right

Good Training for the Bigger and Better Companies

    Manager In Training (Former Employee)
    Ravenswood, WV

ProsGreat Commission Opportunities - 2% of all sales! 14 dollars per phone!
Great Customers - loyal customer base
Great Training - trained for all major cell phone companies and fast paced
Discounts - AMAZING discounts. probably why the company loses money, they practically give things away to the employees.

Cons-Micromanagement beyond anything I have ever seen! Its not enough to sell a phone with a case, charger, screen protector, backup battery, stylus, ect ; they want you to sell your first born child, and even then they will ask why you didn't sell your second.

-Way too stressful for such little pay. Minimum wage to do things that in any other company, you'd be getting at least 30k+ a year.

-Promise of advancement in company is a lie. They WILL NOT promote you, unless something crazy happens (i.e. Death, Manager fired, Neighboring store in a bind)

-You're expendable. The company is proud of it's "always hiring" motto and if you have any issues with the company or associates, they will chop you off the block quicker than you can clock off.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop micromanagement - the employees have enough trouble with the 3000 rules and policies already set in place, the last thing they want to think about is the fact that they should have sold the batteries to the guy who bought the television.

Compensate your employees for the job they do, RadioShack isn't the only place that sells electronics.
