On the right track to turning things around

Radioshack Store Manager (Former Employee) Millington, TN

ProsThis has been a fun and rewarding job. While sometimes upper management and corporate policies could be annoying, redundant, or out of touch; the overall atmosphere was fun and family like. My employees were truly great. I enjoyed helping them develop while developing into a stronger leader and better salesperson all the time myself. The benefits were pretty good, and time off was usually not a problem if requested in advance.

ConsSometimes corporate policies were out of touch with reality in the store. Sometimes a good concept that does not translate well to reality is worse than winging it. Too many metrics were being tracked, but I have heard that this issue has been corrected.

Advice to Senior ManagementGive a little more control of the store environment to the actual managers who are working there everyday. If your district managers do their job well, there should not be a store manager that you can't trust to make good decisions on their own.

    Push Cell Phone Sales

Sales Representative (Former Employee) Canfield, OH

ProsMy boss was wonderful to work with. He was flexible when it came to my hours.

ConsThe only thing Corporate cared about was the amount of cell phones you sold. When my boss wouldn't yell at us for not selling our cell phone quota he almost got fired.

Advice to Senior ManagementI have never seen an employee promoted.

I learned a great deal of information in such a short time that led me to becoming a very helpful expert to allcustomers

Sales Associate - Part Time (Current Employee) San Antonio, TX

ProsSmall crew, so more hours to work and commission pay was helpful to the paychecks. Co-workers were friendly and easy to get along with.

ConsHaving to deal with rude customers often was unpleasing. After working for a year and a half the pay didn't seem to compensate for the amount of work myself or any employee put into the company.

Advice to Senior ManagementRaise the hourly wages due to how much knowledge and time we put into the company.

Despite the negativity surrounding this company right now, it can be a fun and rewarding experience if you work hard.

Retail Store Manager (Current Employee) Austin, TX

ProsFlexible scheduling, fun environment, decent benefits, opportunities to move up quickly. Lots of ways to make commissions and bonuses. Overall a very personable job that also challenges the individual to grow.

ConsHigh sales goals, lots of stressful pressure from upper management, extended hours required of store managers. Too many responsibilities expected from the staff, including high sales expectations, complete store and fixture setup, heavy store maintenance and remodeling, and all without adequate hour provisioning or wage compensation.

Advice to Senior ManagementReduce the hours of store managers down to a standard workweek. Provide more reasonable sales goals.

Company is making a comeback....sort of

    Store Manager (Current Employee)

ProsLaid back atmosphere. Pretty flexible scheduling. Respects the military. Benefits are pretty good. Pay is good for Store Manager and up. Like being able to genuinely help people with their needs. Store has a fairly diverse selection of products. Company seems to offer good opportunities for advancement.

ConsMicro-management. Constant shifting of focuses. Too much pressure to sell products that shy consumers away (ie...service plans on everything and having to ask all guests about their cell phone service). I mean, just let us take care of our guests and when WE see the opportunity to ask about wireless or service plans; let us do it. Dont make it a mandate that will get you written up for not doing.

Advice to Senior ManagementAllow us to take care of our guests our way. I mean, you trust us to manage your stores...so let us do that. The constant micro-managing is ridiculous. Stop changing focuses (wireless, service plans, hours reductions) all the time. Pick a plan and let it ride for a while. I constantly shoulder the crap that rolls down hill, in order to save the morale of my guys.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend
