Some stores have great managers. If you are good at selling they will help you become store managers.

    Cons

If you aren't the best at selling, management may force you to quit. By reducing your hours.

I worked at RadioShack for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good starter Sales training, Small staff means you get to know who is working for you and watch them grow, Can move up from Associate level into management easily and quickly if you are good with your sales and personable, Employee plans for Phones are top-notch and dirt cheap

    Cons

Middle and Upper Management are a revolving door, Store level is the ceiling for employees, Too much dependence on Wireless when the margins simply are not what they used to be, managers in lower volume stores work too much for too little, lower volume stores put pressure on managers to steal sales from their employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop being a 'Me Too' company and return to innovating and leading the industry. Promote people from within the business who know what they are doing instead of outsiders from failed companies like Blockbuster, Hollywood Video and Sears/KMart

I have been working at RadioShack full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Flexible schedules for students and parents or both.
Pay CAN be great for associates.
Generally relaxed. Just get your job done and most managers don't care if you take some downtime on your phone, as long as you aren't ignoring customers.
Dealer lines through AT&T, Verizon, or Sprint are super cheap.

    Cons

Pay. Minimum wage plus a 2% commission CAN be a lot but it mostly isn't unless you get at least 1 contract phone a day.
Push phones WAY too much. Yes there is a decent profit behind them, but how they ride you to get it is overbearing.
RadioShack has a big elephant in the room right now. I personally don't think they'll be afloat much longer.

I worked at RadioShack full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

This has been a fun and rewarding job. While sometimes upper management and corporate policies could be annoying, redundant, or out of touch; the overall atmosphere was fun and family like. My employees were truly great. I enjoyed helping them develop while developing into a stronger leader and better salesperson all the time myself. The benefits were pretty good, and time off was usually not a problem if requested in advance.

    Cons

Sometimes corporate policies were out of touch with reality in the store. Sometimes a good concept that does not translate well to reality is worse than winging it. Too many metrics were being tracked, but I have heard that this issue has been corrected.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give a little more control of the store environment to the actual managers who are working there everyday. If your district managers do their job well, there should not be a store manager that you can't trust to make good decisions on their own.

    Pros

My boss was wonderful to work with. He was flexible when it came to my hours.

    Cons

The only thing Corporate cared about was the amount of cell phones you sold. When my boss wouldn't yell at us for not selling our cell phone quota he almost got fired.

I have been working at RadioShack part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Small crew, so more hours to work and commission pay was helpful to the paychecks. Co-workers were friendly and easy to get along with.

    Cons

Having to deal with rude customers often was unpleasing. After working for a year and a half the pay didn't seem to compensate for the amount of work myself or any employee put into the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Raise the hourly wages due to how much knowledge and time we put into the company.
