I have been working at RadioShack

    Pros

Fast paced. Commission based. Wear many hats and learn many different jobs, which may qualify you for even better positions in other companies. Good benefits. You WILL become an expert at SOMETHING. Learn P&L, performance management, scheduling, inventory, shipping/receiving, Daily Reports, Loss/theft, etc. Good contests to win, highly competitive.

    Cons

Schedules sometimes have to change at the drop of a hat. Planograms change weekly, too much micro-management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Loosen up the budgeted hours, quit making new plan o grams to fit in one or two items, and let us be the leaders of our stores.

I have been working at RadioShack

    Pros

Growth potential in a strong brand. Better home vs. Work life balance than retail.

    Cons

I've been in retail my entire 16 year carrier. I'm an expert at this point. Starting over to an extent in a new industry is nerve-racking, but I am a quick study and up for the challenge.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Consider me par.

I worked at RadioShack full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Good company to work for overall. Fast upward growth if you value hard work and commitment. Great career for many middle mangers who have been with the company for 10 - 20 years. Current CEO is very strong. I hope he and his leadership team have enough time in front of them.

    Cons

Having enough inventory of the right product to sell during the key selling periods was always difficult. Pay at the SM level was a challenge. Senior leadership was addressing this head on and making very key improvements.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I believe the board was very stagnant. Many of the board members have been around for the past 10 years, past decisions have been made by the existing board.

Former Employee - Sales Associate - Part Time in Troy, OH

I worked at RadioShack part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

My coworkers were fantastic. Without them, the job would have been miserable. The base pay + a small commission is nice, as it insures you still get at least something for your time if the store is dead, but rewards large sales. Discounts are fantastic, both regular ones and occasional special ones.

    Cons

Upper management is a wreck. They have no understanding of what happens in stores, yet run them with iron fists with no thought of what we tell them. Customers are often angry. Dealing with phone contracts can be very stressful, even more so because those are the sales that upper management pushes.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to what store managers and employees have to say about whats best for policy, not just what your gut tells you and then make it all encompassing.

I have been working at RadioShack part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

They give you a lot of training material, see and learn about new phones, great discounts on most items, base hourly rate and commission.

    Cons

Employee turn over is insane, prices are high, unrealistic sales goals for attach on products, too many changes on policies or procedures, not enough hours to spread evenly through employees that we are forced to hire

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give raises even if on a 6 month review. Better than waiting for minimum wage to go up. That would help cut down on turn arounds, stop changing commission plans. The spiffs from 2011 would be great with a base percentage of the rest of the store. Also, stay closed on holidays such as Christmas and thanksgiving.

I worked at RadioShack part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Overall good customer outlook. Work life balance is fair .

    Cons

Upper management has never worked in stores so really do not know what it takes to operate a store and keep employee turnover low. Upper management pushes way to much on numbers and not enough on making sure that the stores have good knowledgeable employees as well as managers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you see that you have a former employee that is willing to comeback to your company you really should reach out to rehire that employee.
