I worked at RadioShack full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Probably the only good thing about working here is the discounts you get on your phone/s. You can have one for each carrier. Depending on your relationship with your coworkers it might be fun, and just the overall retail experience.

    Cons

Everything. So much work with absolutely no recognition. No raises EVER unless you're a manager and get promoted to a higher volume store. They're constantly changing the commission and every time they changed it, it was worse. Your job is always being threatened. The turn over rate is ridiculous. It's just not worth the stress for minimum wage. If you get hired here I would suggest getting a couple months of experience, then applying with the actual cell phone carriers. Their pay rate is at least three dollars more per hour in my city.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop changing the policies/pay rate every three months. Stop firing long time employees for stupid reasons without conducting proper investigations. If you're going to preach "Lead by example" you should start doing it.

Great part time work for students. Not so for Managers, or anyone looking for a stable job, or a career.

I worked at RadioShack full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good cell phone plans for employees, fun working with electronics, small crew can become tight nit team.

    Cons

Labor cut so tight managers find themselves working long hours and usually alone, which can be very uncomfortable when it gets busy. There is a lot of pressure to surpass prior years sales, which is very difficult considering the state if radioshack and the fact labor is cut so low, plus the pay is minimum for associates , while managers nearly make just above minimum once hours are calculate. I personally experienced a total disconnect between upper management and the employees and customers in the store. They really do not understand what it is like for the associates that work in the stores.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Unfortunately it may be to late for anything to make a difference, but putting more pressure on the employees by cutting hours, and pay and expecting them to maintain all aspects of the stores, including maintenance without the tools, labor and time to do it is extremely irresponsible. The focus should first be on the associates and store managers. This will lead to better customer service, and hopefully more sales.

    Pros

Good training, easy to learn and pick up, friendly staff

    Cons

Long hours that seem longer with dwindling customer base. Your life basically becomes eat, sleep, RadioShack. The commisson also seems rather unfair at 2% makes you feel like you're working a ton for absolutely nothing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Increase commission and somehow try to get this company up and running again and bring back your once thriving customer base.

    Pros

Customers can be great to talk with.
    Great Training.
    Awesome employee discount.
Ability to raise your paycheck through commissions and incentives.

    Cons

Company no longer understands how to make money.
Refuses to listen to employees on how to improve the business.
Upper management has no concern for their employees unless they are chosen favorites.
Only care how many phones you sell.
Base pay is as low as they can legally make it.
Not leading the trends in technology and then blaming associates for lessened performance.
    Constantly changing schedule.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Phones don't turn a profit for the seller, only the provider.
Lead the curve of technology or you will fail.

    Pros

The customer service experience you gain is great due to 2% commission rate. You meet a lot of different kinds of customers.

    Cons

Management is always unorganized. Many stores without an actual store manager at all. They don't provide good home/work balance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend a week in a slow store and see their struggles, instead of coming by just once a month to yell at them for not meeting your ridiculous goals.
