I have been working at Rainbow Media full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

if you're working in the Los Angeles office, you have great exposure to the development and production teams, but overall AMC Networks is a changing company. There are many nice, smart and hardworking people, but the company operates like a new company (rather than one which has been around for 20+ years). The company has great employee benefits and pays pretty well for a cable network.

    Cons

Again, focusing on change. AMC Networks years ago was an amazing place to work. With all of its success, unfortunately that changed over the years. Work, life balance is not supported and employees spend years in the same positions with no opportunity to get promoted. AMC Networks is very much a NYC based company, so that culture and those professional expectations extend into all offices. For example, most employees work east coast in addition to west coast hours.

I have been working at Rainbow Media as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

Good work/life balance and nice facilities.

    Cons

People here are completely robotic. If you do anything out of lockstep with the way the machine works, you're rebuked for it. There's also lots of internal work politics going on, so watch your back if you work here. There's also no opportunities to advance here, so if you're coming into one position, it's likely that you'll be stuck in that one for your tenure at the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put more people on staff instead of using people and throwing them away on temp contracts.

I have been working at Rainbow Media

    Pros

Very approachable upper management and you can really learn whatever you set out to learn. Everyone is respectful of your work-life balance

    Cons

Your salary is very low compared to others in similar positions. In addition there are positions created that all have very similar job descriptions that can range from coordinator to manager. People that have been around forever hold on to work and can make promotion within the company EXTREMELY hard. Have to claw to get promoted and a raise in this place. It also doesn't help that there is no uniformity between the companies so no one has a good idea what anyone does outside of upper management.

I have been working at Rainbow Media full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

It has a very creative environment, where there is room to grow. With AMC's recent success, the company seems young and just constantly growing.

    Cons

Pay is not that great, and if you are on a small network, there is a higher chance you cannot grow in the field you are looking to grow in.

    Pros

Strong HR dept, they will really advocate for you. Nice cooworkers. Friendly environment, they really try to please.

    Cons

Communication Communication Communication Communication Communication. Very often the downfall of this company is clear and concise communication. Some very big egos.

I have been working at Rainbow Media part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

I work for AMC Networks part-time and it's a very friendly atmosphere. All the tools you need to succeed are handed to you on a silver platter. Even has a nobody I had my own office (extremely glorified cubical; image an office with no window). Very comfortable hours too.

    Cons

Very large company and Rainbow Media owns several departments that don't intermingle (except at the top). Not really a con but it's the closest thing I can think of. Especially since each floor is newly renovated (as of spring 2012).

I have been working at Rainbow Media as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

AMC NETWORKS can be best descried as very friendly and wonderful atmosphere for work, even for interns. The supervisors were very friendly and gave great feedbacks for all the work I did

    Cons

The workers, most of them, in general seemed to be little less diverse compared to other places. But I guess that's not really too much of a con assuming maybe the whole industry is like that.
