    Pros

Benefits (sorta), they work around your school schedule.

    Cons

They treat employees like crap. Store directors are jerks. They are union and the union screws with everything. It's a horrible job for horrible pay.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

IT'S A GROCERY STORE. NO ONE RESPECTS YOU. JUST RELAX.

    I worked at Raley's full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Company discounts (which isn't much at all)
    Bounses every six months

    Cons

Never ever enough employees. Always short handed. Managers play favorites hard core. This was my first job I started working as a courtesy clerk when I was 16. when I graduated high school many of the other employees in my position were promoted bit I was not. I knew it was because I didn't kiss managements butt. I repeatedly asked management over the years about what I could do to improve my performance and so I could be promoted but I never was. A year and a half later I transferred to a different store and I was immediately promoted. Cashiering is ok, just gets boring. I also worked as a deli/bakery clerk. Manager also played favorites. The deli/bakery's manager was HORRIBLE. She would constantly talk about everyone behind their backs and talk about what everyone was doing wrong but never ever confront anyone about it, not very professional of you ask me. Working in the deli is a horrible job. There is SO much to do and never ever enough people. I usually closed and I was always staying 20-30 sometimes even an hour or more after my shift was over to make sure everything was done correctly. If you stay late they get mad at you for over time. But if you don't do what needs to be done you get in more trouble. Over all I would not recommend this company. At one time I'm sure it was a great company to work for but many things changed just over the 4 years I was there. Benefits decreased a lot, I really just felt like a number and not like a person working for this employer. For the work that you do the pay is not good.

    I worked at Raley's

    Pros

It was a good workout. And they had great benefits after you become part of the Union, which is mandatory after three months

    Cons

Never worked with my schedule, always scheduled me on days I couldn't work that I had told them well ahead of time I couldn't work on

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hold your staff accountable, showing up on time is a mandatory thing, not an option

    I worked at Raley's full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

As a long time employee, I have seen the pros evaporated. If someone is just starting out today, they may not see the way things were and think that employment is OK ("The new norm"). Although, it seems that today's job environment in general is eroding away all that was good leaving the middle class barely scraping by.

    Cons

As a main office employee, there was little job security.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They are just doing what it takes to get the maximum profit possible. There loyalty to their employees is none existent. My advice to raley's is to buck the trend and treat their employees like real people again, but we all know that will never happen.

I worked at Raley's part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

I got paid $10 an hour, which seemed pretty good to me as a temporary summer worker. My fellow employees and managers were nice, and some times the customers were nice too. Once I got used to the work it became easy and it wasn't too bad when it was slow.

    Cons

We were often under-staffed, not neccessarily becuase people called in sick but becuase they just didn't schedule enough of us to work. It was extremely frustrating trying to deal with a long line of people at the deli or sandwhich shop with with only one other employee. Customers often complained about us being under-staffed and could be very rude. The job is also much more physically demanding than I expected as you are on your feet all 8 hours and spend much of the time reaching into the case. I'm only 20 and my back hurt at the end of the day.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire more people, especially in the deli.
