I worked at Raytheon full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Cool jobs that can be very fun at times.

    Cons

Usually get pigeon-holed, and then the job can start getting repetitive and boring. Intentionally understaffed which tends to burn out employees by having a heavy workload. PTO rather than separate vacation and sick time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There are so many layers of management to get to the top that messages and perceptions have trouble flowing each way. I've seen management proclaim success for an easy transition to a new division wide tool while the same tool was universally hated by the engineers that were forced to use it.

I have been working at Raytheon

    Pros

Good compensation and benefits. Nice people. Work-life balance. There are opportunities for advancement if you work really hard and get along with the right people.

    Cons

Very male dominated. Military atmosphere. Not innovative in the Finance area. Hours are not bad but not flexible.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be open to input from all levels of employees. Don't be so hierarchal. Be more flexible with work arrangements.

I worked at Raytheon full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

A lot of opportunity for entry level ppl or fresh out of college grads

    Cons

Raytheon is very sneaky and cut throat. No consistency and don't follow standard accounting principles. Make up rules as they go and anything goes as long as a budget isn't blown

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get off your high horses and learn to do the jobs you are being paid to manage. Managements motto seems to be "if my employees can't do something let me find someone else at another site to do it bc there is no way I'm doing it even if I knew how to do it!"

I have been working at Raytheon full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    * Large company with locations throughout the US and the world
    * Multiple opportunities to change assignments -- and even your career path -- if you are willing to work hard and pursue those opportunities
    * Good pay and good benefits
    * Strong commitment to diversity -- in all of its possible interpretations
    * Excellent opportunities to work on international assignments

    Cons

    * Large company with and some bureaucratic processes
    * Industry is cyclical, with ups and downs over the years -- making job stability a concern (but not too much; the company is actively diversifying its portfolio through international customers)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    * Harness the energy of new ideas; empower your employees to pursue creative change, even if there is some risk of failure

    Recommends

    I worked at Raytheon

    Pros

Solid benefits, smart people, challenging work.

    Cons

Solutions are often "throw more bodies at it". Red tape associated with defense contracting.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Develop more engineers into client facing/business roles instead of hiring ex-military personal constantly.
