I have been working at Raytheon full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    Good benefits.
    Pay median to industry (Defense).

    Cons

Difficult to get new ideas promoted from within unless you are the chosen one.
Management can require people to work over major holiday and not be present.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop limiting new ideas, only focus on items that are important for that 12 months cycle. Could have a technology disruption that you don't fund or look at.
Management has "at all cost" attitude which does not promot work life balance.

    Neutral Outlook

I worked at Raytheon full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The company culture outside of the bargaining unit is really great. One of a very few union shops in FL. Stay away from the union's overall mentality.

    Cons

It is a bit difficult to jump on board with them, especially if you don't have a degree. They do have "internal" career paths, but you'd better start getting loud about it when you're interviewed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep communications open with shop floor.

    Pros

Opportunity to work with some of the brightest technical minds in the business. Good benefits.

    Cons

Inconsistent hiring and mini-layoffs don't show a long-term investment in building and maintaining technical knowledge base.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Always be hiring the best and laying off the rest, regardless of defense industry funding vagaries.

    Pros

Raytheon Missle Systems in Tucson is a great place to work, the general culture of the company is positive, the benefits package is fantastic & the retirement package is also.

    Cons

There are inconsistencies across the company as a whole. Different business units do things differently than RMS. I believe this is something that is being worked on, but it seems to be taking an extremely long time.
