Current Employee - Senior Software Developer in Woodland Hills, CA

I have been working at ReachLocal full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Woodland Hills is a nice area
Many of the employees are nice people

    Cons

Turnover is exceptionally high; Many new employees leave within 3 to 6 months
    Management lacks technical leadership
Most of the software development work boring/uninteresting
Yet, the architecture is a giant mess of legacy systems
Pay is $30K less than similar positions elsewhere in Los Angeles
No 401K matching; The possibility of matching has 'been under discussion' since 2010
Annual salary increases tend to be about 2%
Most employees received a bonus of about $500 last year (2012)
Never ask for a raise or promotion, you will be immediately branded as 'greedy and arrogant'

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook

    Pros

Freedom to manage your own schedule. Great insurance benefits.

    Cons

Terrible executive management. My first day the manager quit, then we were without for a couple months before we finally got a manager that was hired from outside the company (terrible mistake) so we knew more than her. The highest employee turn-over I have ever witnessed and or heard of. Truth!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You invest money in airfare, hotel, training hours and reimbursements yet no follow through and or sales support.

Former Employee - Systems Administrator in Woodland Hills, CA

    I worked at ReachLocal

    Pros

Hardworking intelligent people in the corporate office, save a few. Very liberal when it came time to come in later or earlier as per the persons needs, at least in IT operations. Very intelligent and hardworking people at the lowest levels.

    Cons

    No opportunity for advancement.
Upper management is not open to criticism.
Everyone works way to hard for too little pay.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Appreciate the workers that you have before they decide to head for better positions.
