    Fun, yet somewhat unpredictable

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsThe people who work here are smart, fun and engaging. If you choose the right product team, work can be very fulfilling. The company culture is in the process of changing and becoming more transparent and technically relevant.

ConsRealNetworks has historically been involved in way too many businesses and lacks focus. There are lots of unpredictable changes that come from the upper tiers of management that seem like they are from left field. Compensation and benefits are good if you are on the right project and have a strong manager to advocate on your behalf.

Advice to Senior ManagementEmpower individuals at the lower tiers to help influence the direction of the company. Keep technical and product decisions and the lower levels and provide only guidance and goals at the higher levels.

    Over-the-hill tech company

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsGood opportunities to learn new skills and technology if you're motivated.

ConsVery resource constrained. No company strategy, poor product & project management, poor advancement opportunities. Senior leadership is opaque and unhelpful.

Advice to Senior ManagementCalling yourself a "startup" doesn't make it so.

Work was cool, leadership was lacking

    Senior Program Manager (Former Employee)
    Seattle, WA

ProsTechnically interesting work, good work-life balance, stress periods were only ever a few weeks in a row, usually with a known end goal and date.

ConsThe company is not doing very well and frequently changes direction.

Advice to Senior ManagementTry to stick to goals that make the most sense financially and that are achievable.

    Sinking ship...

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Seattle, WA

ProsGood people. Casual/laid back environment. Tries to still have the feel of a start-up. Pretty good benefits.

ConsThe Company is going no where. I had zero faith in upper management to get the company back on track.

Advice to Senior ManagementFire upper management and find people who won't run the company into the ground.

good people, management slow to react, opportunities squandered

    Lead Software Engineer (Former Employee)
    Seattle, WA

ProsThere are a lot of great people here and from what I saw the engineering teams were passionate and worked hard.

ConsToo many ineffective managers, too much time wasted on products whose time has passed, not enough support to build the best products.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep reinventing yourselves. Don't reward failure. Make sure teams have the resources they need to do the best job possible.

    Everybody grab a bucket...

    Software Development Engineer (Current Employee)
    Seattle, WA

Pros-Great benefits (5 weeks of vacation, free drinks, subsidized transportation, subsidized lunch)
    -Decent location (Belltown)

Cons-Too corporate-y for our own good.
-Poor leadership. A bunch of bean counters that don't really seem to care about their employees, just want us to grab a bucket and help bail out the sinking ship that is RN.
-Low morale: Everybody is just trying to survive...there is hardly any passion here.

Advice to Senior ManagementHard pivot. You are no longer (relative) good at media. Find another niche because some other giants have far surpassed the RN of yesteryear.
