I worked at Regeneron Pharmaceuticals full-time

    Pros

Decent benefits, average salary, great stock option, abundance of training, many opportunities to learn various aspects of engineering, state of art lab, variety of projects, opportunities to visit different vendors and manufacturing site and learn the process, flexible time, talented and innovative team

    Cons

many layers of management, unorganized structure, unprofessional and at time inappropriate behavior, lack of clear vision from the upper management, lack of communication to the team from upper management, mid level management do not nurture the talent neither provide essential direction and feedback on the reports performance, the engineers carry most of the weight of the team, personal issues get in way of decision making

    Advice to Management

create a better place for collaboration and teamwork, encourage creativity, have a more open flow of communication between upper management down to employees, create a more respectful environment that encourages collaboration and compromises, hire more competent technical managers to lead the team of engineers, motivate your team to do great work and lead by example

I have been working at Regeneron Pharmaceuticals full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits, nice co-workers, good pay.

    Cons

Lack of communication among departments, management needs to communicate more between each other and with their employees. Way too much paperwork for small changes. No organization when it comes to training schedule or what you are supposed to be focusing on. Not a lot of help learning how to do things.

    Advice to Management

Communicate. Help your employees. Organize trainings and delegate responsibilities.

I worked at Regeneron Pharmaceuticals full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Strong focus on the science, so a good place for those interested in or working in those areas. The benefits are great. Most of the people there are nice.

    Cons

The expectation is that you are available 16 hours daily, 7 days per week. No concept of work life balance (plenty of lip service paid). No real flexibility to move between departments - some were lucky, others not. The Tarrytown facility is located in a very expensive area so plan on commuting long distances in order to afford housing.

    Advice to Management

Keep an eye out for burn-out - there are many unhappy faces showing the strain of excessive growth. There is a reason for high turnover, and it's not just because the company is growing. Many staff members are afraid to speak their mind during the "best places to work" surveys for fear of reprisal.

I have been working at Regeneron Pharmaceuticals full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The company has grown rapidly and dramatically in a short time period. The outlook and potential of Regeneron is extremely great, however, nothing in the Biotech industry is guaranteed. Regular celebrations are held to boost employee morale. On sight gym. Stock options are often granted as part of yearly compensation package. Robust pipeline.

    Cons

Mediocre salary and benefits. Located in an extremely high cost of living area. Relatively high turnover. Low ceiling to hit. Career advancement is slow to impossible after reaching a certain level. Bonuses are low compare to similar companies. 401K is matched in stock options. Work/life balance is highly variable between departments and managers. There is a potential for a catastrophic failure of the company or a take over by a bigger fish.

    Advice to Management

Create an atmosphere where individuals are given a path for sustainable career development and growth. Don't forget about the little guys, they are the foundation of the company, the people who do the work. I see a lot of indifference/ambivalence towards employee turnover. There is a reason why people leave. Regeneron provides a great platform as a training ground for moving onto somewhere else where there are better opportunities in salary/benefits and for career advancement.

I have been working at Regeneron Pharmaceuticals full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I have worked here for over 3 years in the commercial organization. Regeneron has a great overall atmosphere. There are a lot of parties, educational events and employee benefits. It's obvious that senior leadership wants their employees to be happy. Because it is a smaller company you have the opportunity to take on new responsibilities you wouldn't have a chance to try at a larger company.

    Cons

The review process is demoralizing, opaque, with arbitrary numbers and ratings, and goals pushing you to do more and more work outside your job scope every year (without any reward, physical or moral). There are no standards for getting promotions. If you have a difficult manager there is no remedy as HR always seems to side with management. 'Managing up' is a daily reality. The rapid growth of the last few years has brought in many individuals from Big Pharma which are quickly changing the company culture. Plenty of hiring for management and up positions. Everyone wants to be chief not indian. I.T. is the hardest department to work with; chronically understaffed, all the good people leave, and help comes at a glacial pace.

    Advice to Management

360 degree reviews for management. If you're a bad manager you shouldn't be one, no matter how many years of experience you have. Recognize and reward hard workers by their solid achievements rather than personality and 'who you know'. Completely overhaul the review process. Hire from other business fields and away from Big Pharma for new and fresh ideas. Create a way for the less influential employees to have their voices heard such as an electronic comments box for HR.

    Pros

Great culture, smart people, beautiful campus

    Cons

no communication, HR Department seems highly disorganized and compartmentalized, long periods of non contact during hiring process, recruiter turn over

    Advice to Management

The HR department needs to get on the same page. Temps are doing 90% of the hiring which is odd when they are the first line of contact to perspective new hires. It's weird for someone to say, "you should work here even though I don't."
