I worked at Rent-A-Center full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Excellent people, lots of opportunity to take on more challenges and try new things. If you're focused on the customer, or serving the needs of the people who serve the customer, you can do great things.

    Cons

Culture has a very short view of the future... strategy is anything that takes place 6 months in the future. Just learning project planning, not yet doing portfolio management. Difficult to get buy-in for activities that will produce results in more than 6 months.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The drive under the former CEO to move towards a servant-leader culture had the possibility to create greatness. I'm really uncertain if the current obsession to give the market quarterly estimates and then drive to those numbers is serving the long term needs of the organization.

I loved working for them. The only reason I didn't go back was because I had a baby and you work long hours & great pay.

I worked at Rent-A-Center full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

You get a lot of experience here in many fields, kind of like tele-marketing, sales, register experience and most of all, I enjoyed working with the public.

    Cons

The most hardest thing here is hitting your numbers. If you don't reach the desired goal of the company, they will get rid of you. On the other hand, if you work hard at it, you can do it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

My only advice would be to cut down on the hours and maybe share the work load between 2 people instead of putting it all on one person. It is a very stressful job....although I enjoyed it and I really miss it. My last year worked was 04-2006.

    I worked at Rent-A-Center full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Allows you to take out your pent up aggression on someone's front door on a Saturday morning
    Employee discount/weekly withdrawal from check
Lots of cash deals on repossessions
Great pay for a poor economic time (you pay for it though... see below)

    Cons

No work life balance (48 was minimum for entry level and that becomes 60-72 for advancement especially in tougher cities)
You have to get poor credit customers to miraculously pay YOU on time.... not likely
Good guy 1 week bad guy the next week to the same customer

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The pay.... REALLY IS GOOD! Don't forget that when you attempt to jump ship for another job. After you clear that hurdle, life is a whole lot less stressful!
