Grinding and unfulfilling

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Republic Services full-time

ProsSalary + Benefits are very strong. If you have sales ability, you may not have to work 40 hours a week due to ease of sale.

ConsWork Ethic, Management's lack of willingness to take responsibility, Weak Leadership, over-reliance on CRM reporting, constant micromanagement, inability to provide consistent service, cannibalistic sales structure

Advice to Senior ManagementVet your new hires with more prudence; eschew making excuses for poor performances; own your flaws; stop micromanaging your sales folks; hold the operations folks accountable for missed pick ups; back up your employees rather and kowtowing to upper management.

Poor Communication

Equipment Operator/Driver (Current Employee)

I have been working at Republic Services full-time for more than a year

ProsBenefits are on par with the industry. Pay scale is good.
Fair amount of PTO.

ConsCommunication is lacking on most levels, employees are left to self manage days off and coverages with no real input from management. The most basic of training on equipment so you don't get hurt. No oversite . Better to complain to your truck, it gets the same result and you wont get fired. No written or posted schedules.

Advice to Senior ManagementCut the dead weight of mid level management, they are just mocking you behind your back.
Hold lead positions accountable do not allow them to pencil whip paperwork .

Loved my job but upper management needs better HR skills

Residential Driver (Former Employee)
De Soto, IL

I worked at Republic Services full-time for more than a year

ProsGood pay co-workers were great people and immediate supervisor was a good man. Over all, good place to work. Thought I would retire from this job.

ConsCo-workers were scared of upper management, they were afraid they would get fired at anytime. Told to hurry hurry and then told slow down and be safe, but don't go over certain hours. They tell you to make sure to stop for 30 min. lunch, but no one ever has time to.

Advice to Senior ManagementI was terminated because someone else backed in to my truck (backing accident!?). Another guy wrecked two trucks (totaled), and they sent him to retraining. Of course I'm 48 and the other guy was young. I think the HR Manager was afraid he would play the race card. Myself: Filed for bankruptcy

Big Company/ hard to do business with as customer or employee.

Account Manager (Current Employee)
Atlanta, GA

I have been working at Republic Services full-time for more than 5 years

ProsGood pay, good benefits, 401k w/ percentage company match

ConsLimited growth opportunities, inefficient procedures, little inside support for outside reps

Advice to Senior ManagementRestructure sales initiatives to focus on growth and true retention efforts with customer. Time wasted on collections, price increases, handling operational calls are better spent increasing revenue. Seems company has reduced headcount in these areas and expect sales people to cover. Little or no advancement opportunity. Rediculous internal paperwork constraints . Annual commission plan changes blatanly reflect company intent to reduce compensation, and increase workload. Worklife/ homelife balance is terrible.

BEWARE

Front Load Driver (Current Employee)
Knoxville, TN

I have been working at Republic Services full-time for less than a year

ProsPay is "OK", Needs to be more though. Benefits are "OK", Nothing great.

ConsPrepare for the end of your personal life, I get up at 1am and get home at 5-6pm. They constantly look to "wright you up" over any little thing they can find. I've been here less than a year and have seen more wright up's, 3 day suspension's, And people getting fired than I have in my entire working life. Trucks don't get repaired like they should. If it can be "patched up" instead of downing the truck and spending the money to fix it right, That's what they will do. I've been told the less they spend on repairing trucks the bigger the bonus management will get. Of course I can't prove this but I can say they don't like to spend money the trucks, I'm in my mid 40's and this is the worst truck I have ever been in. They'll preach safety one minute, Then give you a day and half worth of work and expect you to get it done, Safely, In one day. You have to run long, Hard hours and if you get into an accident you could loose your job depending on how bad it was. Nobody in management has ever told me "Good Job, Thanks, I Appreciate You", Nothing, Ever. They usually act like your bothering them if they have speak to you. Overall this is the worst place I have ever worked.

Not a Sales company.... Very operations focused

Sales Representative (Current Employee)

I have been working at Republic Services full-time for more than 3 years

ProsAs a current Sales Representative the pros are flexible schedule and opportunities to meet people in all types of businesses.

ConsVery recent changes to commision policy make it impossible to meet monthly quota. The changes have reduced the average sales income by 30%. Sales staff have zero opportunity to be promoted. The company is completely focused on operations and cutting expendutures rather than being creative and growing the business.

Advice to Senior ManagementIf you want a professional company allow your sales people to be professional sales people and compensate accordingly.

Too much of a bad thing

Residential Driver (Former Employee)
Hudson, FL

I worked at Republic Services full-time for more than a year

ProsSteady work, benefits. Weekly pay.

ConsBelow minimum wage overtime pay. Day rate pay. No advancement without connections. Up to 16 hour days. Every promise broken or never achieved. Revolving door job adding to the "steady work" comment above. Company does not take responsibility for anything and they don't back up any employees below management. Can and will terminate you on the spot to save any trouble.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou wont take advice because you are all "elite" and just follow your own or company rules without putting a human factor in. But if I have to give advice here I will say; Stop treating employees like cattle or "bodies" and maybe you can keep them a little longer.
