I have been working at Responsys full-time for more than a year

ProsNot many pros to say about the company used to be cool, but then put a bunch of bad mangers in place.

ConsMicromangers, no sales leadership, no visibility, a do as I say not as I do mentality

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Not a climate that fosters innovation

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Responsys part-time for more than 3 years

Pros- Decent work life balance

Cons- Lacks climate for innovation, Politics galore
- Limited career development and learning opportunities
- Too much focus internally, product development slow, frozen and jerky, way too much time spent building band aid solutions that really dont inspire
- Employees score high on arrogance and less on smartness or ease to work with
- Non-tech savvy customers and sales organization
- Archaic technology stack to work with
- Stingy benefits, no free food, gym, miserly 401k plans

Advice to Senior Management- Seriously consider the neighborhood you are part of, what is your value propostition in the silicon valley for a prospective employee to come and work for. Neither a technology powerhouse nor a thought leader necessarily with a culture that stifles innovation is a bad recipe to attract top talent

The great work environment and culture is fading.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Responsys full-time

ProsCEO has great intentions and true open door policy. Some areas of the company still have a flexible start-up feeling, and show appreciation for good work ethic.

ConsMiddle management has high turnover and is not supportive of the employees on their teams. No middle ground between micromanagement and absent managers. It seems to be only one or the other.

Advice to Senior ManagementPay more attention to the morale of the people working directly with clients. Employee attitudes are a direct reflection of Responsys.

“Amazing till end of 2012. Changed drastically most that”

Senior Software Engineer (Current Employee)
Bangalore (India)

I have been working at Responsys full-time for more than 3 years

ProsResponsys still has some talented people to work with. There is a strong analytical culture that if done right (like the early years) can be a great learning opportunity for people.

ConsLost focus over time. Early employees left or checked out.
The management let strong people leave and were left with some poor employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementDont let your employees go. Keep on your toes to keep innovating and looking for new disruptions.

– I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Overworked Employees. No Growth Opportunities.

Senior Program Manager (Current Employee)
Seattle, WA

I have been working at Responsys full-time for more than 3 years

ProsReally nice coworkers that make it hard to leave behind.

ConsVERY over worked employees. High level of dissatisfaction amongst employees. No growth opportunities. Company takes revenue and stock holders over employee happiness. High turn over in employees.

Depends on department you land in. Favorites are played.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Responsys full-time

ProsGood people
Some departments are better than others.
Teamwork is not necessarily top priority

ConsThanks for the small raise. It was like getting the 10 cent an hour raise. I am now earning less due to inflation. I see staff here work hard and generally there is no opportunity to grow. Good to get experience then leave.

Advice to Senior ManagementGrow your staff.

Very poor morale

Program Manager (Current Employee)
San Bruno, CA

I have been working at Responsys full-time for more than a year

ProsLocation. Great offices that are fairly new.

ConsUnderhanded management team. Going to HR with any complaints is a complete joke. Very underhanded and sneaky.

Advice to Senior ManagementPlease stop encouraging employees to go to glassdoor and post good reviews. Spend your time training managers first.

OK

Program Manager (Current Employee)
Dallas, TX

I have been working at Responsys

ProsThe free food and drinks are the best. The free parking is a plus as well. As far as the culture I would say there is work that needs to be done.

ConsManagement is ok but they can be a little micromanaging in their overall style. Also the benefits are not that great

Worthwhile only as a stop along the way

Senior Software Engineer (Current Employee)
San Bruno, CA

I have been working at Responsys

ProsFast growing, successful company.
Some interesting technology.
Some good people.
Hiring like crazy.
Recent efforts to hire talented people.
Reasonable work-life balance.
Possible to negotiate good starting salary.

ConsPoor engineering management. Managers too often behave as though all programmers are plug-compatible automatons.
Rigid, hierarchical management structure that stifles collaboration.
Poor engineering standards - perfunctory design reviews, no code coverage standards, too few
automated tests, no automated UI testing.
Low programmer morale.
Few career advancement opportunities.
Little or no recognition for good work. Minimal or no raises, bonuses or stock option grants.

Advice to Senior ManagementImplement 360-degree reviews, remove managers who fare poorly on reviews
Flatten the engineering management structure
Improve development methodology
Provide positive feedback and regular, merit-based reviews

Responsys – Why Work for Us?

Marketing as we know it, has changed. Not because we said so. Consumers have said so. They fast-forward through TV commercials. They’ve put down their newspapers. They don’t have a landline.  They can choose which… Full Overview
