I worked at Risk Management Solutions

    Pros

Unique predictive modeling solutions provides many potential opportunities to work on challenging projects.

    Cons

Company grew to larger and bureaucratic. Style became more important than substance and management quality has declined.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Upper management needs to take responsibility for mistakes rather than continuing to find scapegoats to take the fall for poor performance

I worked at Risk Management Solutions

    Pros

World-class personnel, above-average pay, decent benefits, nice perks like free food/ snacks.

    Cons

This was a great company until it embarked on the great cloud platform adventure in 2012. The company hired a lot of senior people, and the CEO was convinced that clients would jump to the new product quickly and pay multiples for it. Despite numerous indicators that the software was not on track, the executive team plowed ahead to the inevitable crash in spring of 2014. After reevaluating, the company had to start over with the software, and in the process go through layoffs. Most of the good senior people have now left (COO, CFO, etc.), and only those hired in the last few years are trying to politically stake their claim. The company has lost its focus on the science and clients as it pursues the platform technology unicorn. It's sad how good this place used to be and what a shell of itself its turning into.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Clean house at the top. Find people that are more client/ model focused. Hire a COO!

    Pros

Nice campus, great lunches, plenty of challenges to overcome.

    Cons

Executives and Senior Leadership. All about politics - kiss up or shut up. If you are experienced but are below the pay grade of the Senior Leadership team, watch out. They like to hear that all is well. Speak the truth and you get shot. If you are friends with the CEO and enjoy his boasting nature, you will do well.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bring back some of the management team you foolishly let go or just quit!

    Pros

I had a lot to learn, and I can easily share my opinion with my team at RMS. I don't think I could do the same as other companies. You are surrounded by a lot of creative and intelligent people who have a lot of experience. They all are nice, and supports one another, and the benefits are great as well.

    Cons

Wrong management made many people lost the jobs. Lack of leadership can't see the growth on next three years.

I worked at Risk Management Solutions full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Most people are very nice to work with
    Nice campus, gym, cafe, etc.
    Decent pay, benefits, and perks

    Cons

    Politics, politics, and more politics
    No career path (see above)
Aimlessly trying to create something, without the talent
Senior management is really clueless and they are the same people that oversaw the last debacle

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please step aside. You all have been there a number of years (some 20 plus years). The culture you have made is that you're the smartest guys in the room. The world has changed and you aren't those guys. Some of you are so over your head, yet you can't admit that because of the culture. Some reviews on here call for the CEO to step aside. I don't know if he's the problem, but all of his 'leadership council' need to take a good long look in the mirror. These are people's livelihoods you're 'learning' from. Shame on you for not admitting you don't understand software development... solely understanding insurance or an earth science, or both, doesn't qualify you to tackle any of the tasks before you.

    Pros

Nice little things like free lunch once a week, volunteer days when everyone goes to help out somewhere, ping pong tables, swag like decent backpacks.

    Cons

Communication failures, leading to delivery failures, followed by poor reorganizations, followed by layoffs and a failure to learn and grow, repeating the cycle.

    Pros

Great Model built unique in the industry .Good campus , Free food , games.

    Cons

Very bad planning , no proper recognition for hard work . They expected a lot from the employees for "RMS one " , insisted to be present in the office on all Saturdays with no exception for two long years , to answer calls in mid-night , all holidays and finally they let go really good & hard working people . Who ever chose the list went more by their personal likes & dislikes and not based on the individual skill set.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend more time in defining the objective & more time in planning .

    Pros

Great and attractive benefits..there is the hook for incentives and motivation.
Great story and history of the company and where it wants to go
Great company with scientific modeling capabilities and well respected experts in fields of meteorology.

    Cons

Time for a reality check...Rms (N)One was a completely over ambitious gamble with no fall back plan and things are now going very wrong. Unfortunately, the same story of believing in the arrogance without any history of delivering products on time, and with any quality.. Is now haunting with very worrisome consequences.Over spending this time WILL catch up...what client will buy a product or service or a promise, why stick around with the prospect of more illusion?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You don't listen, so why would we expect you to change? This was a great company, is this what you wanted, Hemant?
