Growing pains but a bright future

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsCEO is making the necessary changes to move the product and the company forward. Supported by parent company and while the next 6 months will be tough it isn't going to be tough by typical Silicon Valley standards. New leadership in software dev is the real deal. Agree with other comments that this is gem in Silicon Valley.

ConsBecause it is a relatively small company and many many people have been there for YEARS, the kind of change we are going through is hard for them. If you aren't happy, please go somewhere else.

Advice to Senior ManagementTook a little too long to make the changes with the CTO. Agree with other comments about HR and product management. HR: Don't hire inexperienced friends of the family into jobs we don't need. Product management needs the right home and leader.

Highly intelligent colleagues, supportive management, comfortable and challenging place to work

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Newark, CA

ProsRMS has a great mission - to make the world a more resilient place. To achieve this, it has created a terrific business model that is very profitable. It provides a secure, stable environment with highly intelligent and talented colleagues. The work/life balance is real, not just a sales pitch - everyone starts with 20 days PTO plus 10 national holidays. People work hard, and there is stress (after all, it's WORK, not play), but it is very manageable compared to many organizations in Silicon Valley.

ConsAs with any growing organization, there are management challenges. The company sometimes lacks interdepartmental transparency and communication - a situation that leadership is addressing.

Advice to Senior ManagementContinue to hire the best and the brightest. Don't settle for mediocre hires even with scarce human resources.

Great company, right direction, many perks, and some problems

    Software Engineer (Current Employee)
    Newark, CA

ProsOverall, the company is moving in the right direction regarding software development, though there are still problems. Flexible schedule. Free snacks. Free dinner every day. Free lunch once a week. Gym. Team outings are paid by the company.

ConsVery bad organization of different teams interacting with each other. One team blocked by another is a normal thing. Some approaches used during development of software are very questionable and bring a lot of hassle without any benefit.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet some people experienced in software development to organize development processes. Teams constantly blocked is waste of company's money.

RMS is an exciting and fun place to work doing cool stuff with really smart people.

    Vice President (Current Employee)
    Hoboken, NJ

ProsRMS has a special culture with a great proportion of the employees being extremely passionate and energetic. Being an innovative growth organization requires frequent change which is coupled with great career opportunities and growth. Those who are courageous enough to adapt quickly, seize these opportunities and bring fellow colleagues along can achieve great success.

ConsWith great passion for RMS and what we do it's sometimes difficult to switch off because its in my blood. But honestly, I'm grateful to be in a career that I enjoy at a company I'm proud to be a part of and have helped shape over the years. I'm thankful that I have been patient enough and smart enough to stick with RMS over the past 10+ years through the evolution of this organization and personally share in it's success.

Advice to Senior ManagementAppreciate and acknowledge our employees as they are our greatest asset! Our employees are integral to our past current and future success.

    Passionate People

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Newark, CA

ProsGetting to work on cutting edge stuff without the hype and with some of the smartest people in the valley. The environment is cool and a lot of collaboration.

ConsPerks are ok, not great: Thursday lunch, occasional breakfast, and gym is good. Too much competition between the global offices.

Advice to Senior ManagementEmpower your people to do more… you'll be surprised.

Some growing pains, but huge opportunities ahead

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsNumber 1 in the industry. Small company that is doing some big-company things. Great upcoming release that could really change the industry. Passionate CEO. Continually changing and evolving.

ConsSome growing pains with promoting technical people into managerial roles without the proper training. Broad company branding/recognition is lacking.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep in touch with the employees and with the evolving technology. Focus on manager training and employee development.

    A market leader AND disrupter

    Product Management (Current Employee)
    Newark, CA

ProsA company with extremely strong market share and financials, but willing to completely disrupt the market space by embracing new technology (cloud) and introducing more open and resilient IP (risk models). It's kind of like a start up, but with no chance of running out of money. Also, the culture is positive - its about what we can achieve, not deliver or else....

ConsBeing part of a disrupter strategy is not for the faint of heart. The environment is fast-paced by necessity and every decision is critical - which turns up the pressure. Also, we're inventing something that has never existed, so there are nay-sayers in the industry and to some extent among customers.

A place to be an individual and make your mark

    Senior Manager (Current Employee)
    Hoboken, NJ

ProsSome of the most intelligent people I've ever worked with but also grounded, down to earth and humble. There is a great deal of information sharing.

I have the ability to try new things, and even with the risk of failure be supported by my team and upper management. (Yet to hear the words "We did that once and it didn't work!")

Because of our company size, the teams are smaller and people have the opportunity to really shine. This is not the place to work if you want to hide and aren't ready to "roll up your sleeves". Everyone has responsiblity and opportunity.

ConsMajority of senior leadership is located in California and though they do travel extensively, their time in the remote offices is limited.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe more visible. We see a lot of Hemant but the other leaders tend to focus on their direct reports. Would love to understand what each leader brings to the table and the overall vision of the company.

Refreshingly friendly, impressively focused and continually collaborative!

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Hoboken, NJ

ProsThe environment is buzzing and contagious. Very smart people focused on changing the industry and world for the better. Humbled daily by the level of empathy throughout the company and receptive management striving to continually improve.

ConsHoboken could use more parking and Newark is a little remote, but these are minimal pain points for the opportunity to be part of something so special.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep the employees involved and engaged.
