Overall a Good Company that needs to re-focus on their Core Business

    Pros

Very Sales Focused Company. Market Leader in Heavy Equipment Auctions

    Cons

Inconsistent Sales Management at the Field Level Work / Life Balance is not as it is portrayed during hiring interview process. Salary for Seasoned Sales Personnel is way under market values Bonus Program is very hard to attain. Most TMs did not bonus in 2014!

    Advice to Management

Less focus on the hot topic of the week and more focus on securing auction consignment business by utilizing the time proven deal structures that brought RBA to where it is. Way too much focus on the CRM (Salesforce) and breaking into new industries (Transportation.....) The bottom line should always be Sales (GAP) at profitable levels and the bonus program should be structured to pay TMs on each deal. RBA gets to post the profits of each sale immediately so why can't the TM be compensated once the assets are sold?

I worked at Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

-The majority of people are great to work with and you'll come out with new friends -Good experience, most of the time -A lot of experience to different industries and can learn and grow from it

    Cons

-Compensation is lower than other industries and you are forced to rely on overtime pay -Often work 30 days straight, little time for work and life balance -Lack of skills and education by management and poor training and development of their staff -Benefits listed by other reviews are only true in head office, they don't exist at auction sites

    Advice to Management

-Practice what you preach, do what is right, not just say it -Remove barriers and problems between head office and the sites

I have been working at Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Family oriented. Flexible work schedule. People are nice.

    Cons

No formal performance evaluation, which allows freeloaders to hang around but difficult for good employees to shine. C-suite had been very dysfunctional, but with a brand new CEO, hopefully things at the C-level will change.

    Advice to Management

C-suite should have a mix of people with industry experience, as well as people with outside real world experience. Let's hope the new CEO will set the ship in the right direction.

I have been working at Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Awesome benefits, you come across some great people, fun atmosphere, lenient hours in between auctions. Pay is salary plus overtime.

    Cons

This was my dream job and I planned to retire from this company until new management was put in place about 2 years ago. Since then, favortisim at our site is at an all time high and it makes it hard on other employees. A lot of times it is about who you know, not what you do. During auction time it can be extreemly stressfull when everyone doesn't pull their weight. People are not paid based on a payscale any more, so eveyone has an arbirary salary.

    Advice to Management

Customer Service Manager pay should be put back on a specific payscale. Employees at sites should be able to review each other annonomously so their is no fear of retaliation and you will get an honest picture of what goes on. Investigate further in to site problems because a lot of things are brushed under the rug when an employee is "liked"
