I have been working at Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexible schedule in between auctions, great benefits, fun atmosphere, decent pay, great people at our site, travel to fun places, get to meet lots of interesting people, people in the HR department are awesome!

    Cons

seldom get raises, some people don't pull their own weight, feel like individuals are not taken into account, just numbers, sometimes travel is just too much

    Advice to Management

Make employees feel more valued. Pay attention to who is actually doing work and who is just a butt kisser.

  2. Great company and fun business, but work you too hard around auction time.

    Pros

The people who work at RBA are great

    Cons

Spread people too thin around auction time

I worked at Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The people and experiences of the company are great. Auction day is like a sporting event with a lot of excitement. Good opportunities to travel and make overtime pay.

    Cons

Work life balance can be challenging. Expect to work at minimum 2 weeks straight prior to sale day with potential of long hours depending on size of sale. The company is all about sales and operations team can be left out in cold on customer issues.

    Advice to Management

Have better training environments other than conference calls for operation positions

I have been working at Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good amenities: gym, child care, cafeteria. Great potential to control your own income (although most positions/departments are salaried and this varies). Great people to work with on your team. Lots of activities and incentives (again varies by department). An excellent benefits program.

    Cons

Not very much training and development. Unclear path on how to move up in the company in some areas.

    Advice to Management

As an employee who's quite satisfied with their position I don't have much advice, however there are some colleagues who find there is a lack of opportunity for advancement, income growth, and development. I think getting everyone involved in the business at an auction site level and rewarding people with more performance based income would help this.

I have been working at Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I've been here 2 years and have really enjoyed my time here. The company is growing and has put a lot of new processes in place. With that said they offer lots of training and resources to help with all the change. Over time it gets easier and I can see the additional value we offer both our employees and customers alike. There is a work hard play hard feeling throughout the company and you get to work with senior managers and front line staff on a variety of exciting projects everyday. I've worked for global companies before and none of them had a culture that was anything close to this company.

    Cons

While there is never a dull moment and there is always lots of work to do there are always exciting projects to work on and lots of cool people to work with. I don't think I've ever worked harder and had more fun than I do at this job.

    Advice to Management

Keep evolving and make sure you continue to recognize your employees for their hard work. Never take that for granted. It wouldn't hurt to have more frequent and spontaneous rewards too.

I have been working at Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Ritchie Bros provides a great opportunity for individuals to learn and understand about the heavy equipment industry. The salary is great and there are a lot of global opportunities.

    Cons

Ritchie Bros is run by a bunch of old boys who have no business acumen. Most middle management has no formal business training, and this is reflected in their management style and decisions.

Large company but small branch feel. Experience depends on your location. Schedule is erratic.

I worked at Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Lots of experience to draw from, different locations support each other well, reasonable amount of autonomy in each location considering how huge the company is. Pay as a Customer Service Manager was good when overtime is considered, but you have to work very very hard for it. The headquarters management teams were supportive.

    Cons

Your experience depends highly on the team at your location. If you like them, great. If you don't, you are in for trouble. Some groups can be very clique-y, while others are very positive and supportive. The auction days are exciting but toooo long (upto 18 hour days). Growth within the company is pretty limited, depending on your skills.

    Advice to Management

Continue trying to improve team building within job sites.
