    Pros

You get to work with many talented individuals, and people are very willing to help others learn new technology, be a sounding board for ideas, and foster personal growth.

    Cons

Since April 2015 (when the company was taken private), there doesn't seem to be any coherent vision for where the company is going and what the growth paths are.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees. Face the realities of the situation, where we are losing good people fast. Realize that the company doesn't really have a future without the very people that you disregard.

    Pros

    Great technology and great people.

    Cons

Culture is slowly changing for the worse. Integration of Opnet has been slow and cumbersome. Steelhead development seems to have slowed down with no clear feature roadmap currently visible.

    Advice to Management

    Value the technical staff

    Pros

Great location. Free snacks and beverages. Work life balance is achievable.

    Cons

Top Heavy. Legacy employees unfriendly to new employees. Under utilization of skill sets. Future roadmap unclear. WFH is not an option, even though 90% of what you do, can be achieved from anywhere.

    Advice to Management

Develop Sr Leadership in area of change management. To improve the culture consider putting metrics around people engagement at all levels. Do not reward arrogant, know-it-all attitudes. Cost - Stop wasting money on unused Real Estate space. Every floor has a significant number of empty cubicles in both Sunnyvale and SF. People rarely talk to each other, so why force people to come to perform activities that could be done remotely - it's like a morgue on many floors in Sunnyvale.

    Pros

Good work life balance. Riverbed is a really good company location wise, it is the heart of San Francisco, and employee can choose to work. Free snacks.

    Cons

Some of the top talents are leaving or has already left Riverbed. The core business of WAN optimization is still good, but other than that there isn't much growth on other areas. The new owner is private investment firm, and to them everybody is replace-able or it is just a number. I am really glad that seen the good days of Riverbed, it is the people that made Riverbed so special. It is hard to be promoted in riverbed. I have seen competent engineers got stuck the same title for 6+ yrs, while less competent engineers got promoted to be managers and senior managers.

    Advice to Management

I hope you can really turn things around for this "billion pre-ipo" company. As a former employee, I don't want to see Riverbed go down.

    Pros

Great salary and benefits. Open communications and awesome culture with lots of talented technical folks.

    Cons

Promoting non-team player and incompetent individual to lead a team is disaster and making a mockery.

    Advice to Management

You need to pay attention on what's is going on in the field and not getting blindsided. You have already lost some good people and more are planning to leave because of your ignorance and thinking you know everything.

    Pros

    - Modern offices with great views both in SF and SV. - Hard working teams ready to collaborate. - Low ego environment. - Work location flexibility.

    Cons

    - Marketing team morale is very low. Everyone is looking for new jobs. - The CMO doesnt believe in planning, calendars or strategy. - Leaders dont understand metrics or optimizing to data. - Marketing leaders execute based on subjective aesthetics and not on perfomance.

    Advice to Management

    - Hire leaders for leadership positions. - Leaders should chart the course and let their teams define the best means to achieve the goals. - All decisions should be based on measurement of performance against goal sets.

    Pros

Free snacks are decent, if you don't mind getting fat Health care coverage is top-notch for families

    Cons

There used to be a lot of smart people at Riverbed, but they've been replaced. This was accelerated when Riverbed went private and Thoma Bravo dictated significant reduction-in-force to meet some abstract short-term financial target. Many good people were cut, and many more are leaving now, figuring that they'll be next. Management is now trying to re-hire some of the people they fired.

    Advice to Management

Look honestly at the strengths and weaknesses of the product portfolio, and don't believe entrenched managers. Stop giving good people reasons to leave while encouraging the lazy to stay.

    Pros

A lot of promise that kept us going, and going, and going. Exciting forward thinking company at one time. Fancy name, fancy location but nothing happened that will be good so far,

    Cons

Feels like they threw people who did not know how to swim back into the deep end to drown. Management had to carry out marching orders to cut staff back drastically and ended up selling their souls to corporate greed.

    Advice to Management

Why did Thoma Bravo spend most of their introductory call to the survivors to invest 5K of their own money? They should have given everyone who stayed an immediate vested share of 5k in the new company. Lots of talent jumping ship now.

    Pros

Money can be made in the right patch for refreshes and visibility opportuinites. Best guys already have jobs outside of Riverbed or are looking. (desperately)

    Cons

    1. Quotas to high with very few OTE teams World Wide. 2. No quarterly accelerators, small RSU awards even after overacheiving. 3. Being managed weekly on an annual plan. UM HELLO??? 4. Product Management has no A players. Not driving the business affectively. 5. Opnet management and culture was poisonous. 6. SteelApp is NOT the future it is niche. 7. OPNET products were written in 1970's GUI looks tired. Too expensive and getting outflanked by startups. 8.

    Advice to Management

Pay to attract top talent. During layoffs you paid more for those leaving than you did those "at risk" players. Watch your linearity drop because after the pipeline is gone from the key guys.....
